MAC Alluring Aquatic swatches and review

MAC Alluring Aquatic isn’t a collection for an ordinary mermaid. With its underwater world of textured aqua packaging, these products are fit for the Queen of the Mermaids, ruling the deep from her sparkling, jewel-encrusted throne.

Maybe I’m being a little flowery, but you can’t imagine the riptide pull of these shockingly beautiful products. MAC claims that Alluring Aquatic will have us “seduced by the sea,” but I think they’ve seriously understated the allure of this collection. “Seduced” is way too subtle– the packaging alone has created a tsunami of desire in me!

Check out the packaging, pebbled with tiny raised “water droplets.” Their shine and texture have made it nearly impossible for me to put them down. Alluring Aquatic has given me a packaging obsession bordering on a fetish.

MAC Alluring Aquatic Lipstick ($17.50)

But it’s not just the packaging. The product inside? Truly worthy. There are five limited edition Alluring Aquatic Lipstick colors, and I tested the two cremesheens:

Mystical – mid-tone creamy rose, an easily wearable, warm medium pink with full, long-lasting coverage.

Goddess of the Sea – dark vibrant violet, which is slightly sheer and surprisingly plummy on me. I usually shy away from purple tones, but I’m going to rethink my no-purple policy after Goddess.

MAC Alluring Aquatic Extra Dimension Eye Shadow ($19.50)

These special edition shadows remind me of mini gumdrops, sparkling and irresistible. Can you eat just one gumdrop? Me neither. So after I tested one, I went in search of more colors. No luck so far, as these irresistible little morsels are flying off the shelves.

We heart this took a look at two of the six shades:

Sea Worship – tarnished olive
Legendary Lure – deep cerulean (dark metallic almost-black green)

I tested Legendary Lure which has a pigment-packed, gleaming finish that blends easily and wears for hours. Very summery. Stef had to claim Sea Worship, the tarnished olive.

MAC Alluring Aquatic Extra Dimension Blush ($27.50)

There are two limited edition shades of these liquid to powder formula blushes. Each of these sunny hues contain “prismatic reflections” for a shimmery (but not too shimmery) finish.

Sea Me, Hear Me – beige pink

A subtle coral pink with a soft sheen, the color is buildable and easily blended. This blush has great color payoff, and is buildable, perfect for giving you a summery look.

Plus “long-lasting” is an understatement. I wore it for at least ten hours without fading. I almost wish I needed to carry it with me for touchups just to stroke those water droplets on the case… yes, I’m obsessed!

MAC Alluring Aquatic Nail Lacquer ($17.50)

The MAC Alluring Aquatic collection contains three limited edition lacquer shades. All loaded with conditioners and UV protection, each more sparkly than the next.

Shimmerfish – sparkling aluminum, a silver pearl with copper flecks that dries to a dull metallic finish.

The color looks like deep sea treasure, slightly tarnished but still gleaming. With two coats over a base coat, the coverage was opaque, and the wear time was impressive – five days before any significant chipping. And the lid has the same glistening water droplets.

Granted, I have a history of enchantment with MAC’s limited edition collections, but Alluring Aquatic makes me want to swim away on a sea of these sparkling products. Dive in soon before the tides turn and this collection is washed away to the watery deeps.

  1. Great post @turboterp! I’m trying to behave with my makeup spending, but you really made me want Mystical and Goddess of the Sea…might have to go swatch these in person :/ lol

  2. This is amongst my most favorite MAC packaging EVER. Right up there with the recent Proenza Schouler, so way to go MAC with the LE packaging lately!

I love Sea Worship e/s, one of the beautes shown above. Though I’d call it an antique gold rather than a tarnished olive. It’s such a lush metallic, I’m really loving it on it’s own applied over my whole lid with just a highlight under the brow. Paired with bronzer and a glossy bronze lip, I feel very summery.

I am resisting the urge to pick up the makeup bag. It’s got the same textured water droplets on a aqua toned bag AND see through sides like some exotic fish tank. I’m kinda dying over it!

    1. @stef – I was immediately drawn to Sea worship as well. It looks like an easy color to wear for summer. I hope I can snag this one but, I have a feeling it will go fast.

  3. Wow, LOVE the packaging, so cool, I literally want the entire collection, but really want Mystical lipstick and the blush… what great colors.

  4. The packaging for this collection is just insane!! Even my husband noticed just how cool the lipstick cases are. I have been using the Goddess of the Sea Lipstick everyday since I got it. It is so pretty!! I am just sad the I couldn’t get my hands on anything else from this collection. I was really hoping to get my hands on the Clear Water lip glass.

  5. I’ve been known to be a bit of a Sea and Sand freak, so naturally, I loved the VERY cool packaging for this BUT, I wish I moved faster to get some. They only have Goddess of the Sea left when I went looking and that’s just wasn’t a good fit for me. I’ll go downed my sorrows in the sea now!
