MAC Holiday Collections 2012

As you may have noticed, I’m kind of a MAC addict. And I’m kind of obsessed with holiday kits. And I’m also kind of in love with cute packaging. And “kind of” is definitely an understatement.

When I first saw the promo photos for MAC’s Holiday 2012 collection, I thrust my laptop at my fiance, pointed at the palettes, and practically yelled, “Omg it’s the cutest packaging I’ve ever seen in my entire life! Just look at the little black bow and the cute tufted satin casings! Anyone who doesn’t just looooove this is the grinch! The grinch who stole my makeup and their heart is two sizes too small!!!”

To which my fiance raised his eyebrow and replied, “Did you really just say that?” And then shook his head. Okay, so I was a little overdramatic about it.

But there’s plenty to be excited about when it comes to the many fabulous items in MAC’s Holiday 2012 collection. I was especially excited by MAC’s All for Glamour Holiday Face Kit in Gorgeous Bronze ($49.50), which contains three eyeshadows, two lipsticks, a bronzer, and a dual-ended lip and eyeshadow brush.

This face kit has the most adorable packaging, with beautiful tufted satin fabric on top, and a cute plastic black bow on the front. However, this does make it a touch bulkier than it would be otherwise. A magnetic closure keeps the contents inside safe and sound, and a good sized mirror inside makes it easy to apply the products.

They’re under a cover to keep them powder-free!

Ingeniously the lipsticks are covered with a flip top lid to prevent excess powder from drifting onto the lipstick pans. Thank goodness, there’s finally a solution to the lipstick/powder palette problem! Kudos MAC.

The three eyeshadow shades work well together, and can be used for a simple neutral eye, or for a dramatic eye. These shades work best over primer to get the most pigmentation, and have good length of wear. Each of the three eyeshadows is approximately two-thirds the size of a full sized MAC eyeshadow.

Hearts-a-Flutter is pale light pink in the pan, and is fairly sheer. It works well as a lid/browbone/inner corner shade. Romance Me is a gorgeous brownish purple with shimmer in the pan, but it’s quite wearable in the crease. Shadowy Lady is a matte blackened plum shade that can be worn in the outer-V and/or as eyeliner.

The two lipsticks allow this to be a perfect day-to-night palette. Barely Lit is a subtle, fairly sheer shade with golden shimmer and a lustre finish, perfect for the office or on the run. Headturner is a pretty Cremesheen-finish cool berry color, great for evening or a party. They have the signature faint vanilla scent, and are slightly drying. Each lipstick is approximately a third the size of a full tube of MAC lipstick.

The bronzer, Golden, is a finely milled medium bronze with golden shimmer. It’s fairly close in color to my NC35ish skintone, so I have to layer a bit on to really notice it. It’s about a third the size of MAC’s regular bronzer.

If you’re traveling to another town, or just out for a night in your town, the duel-ended brush will do in a pinch. It’s nice for quick touch ups, and is especially handy when going straight from the office to a holiday party.

I love the colors that were included in this palette, because I feel that they go very well together. The one drawback of this palette is that you’re not getting a whole lot of product for the price, which is unusual for a holiday palette.

However, the cute packaging makes this a great gift and a fabulous collector’s item. Plus, it has really practical products in it that I’ll definitely use.

  1. I’ve said it before, @lipglossandspandex – I share your MAC addiction/holiday kit addiction! Anyone who thinks you’re exaggerating your outburst just doesn’t understand. Your All For Glamour look is beautiful!

    1. Aw, thanks @turboterp :) I get really excited about these things, but I really do think MAC’s packaging is the cutest I’ve seen this year.

  2. Looks like MAC took some action here and covered up the lipsticks..Yep, that’s genious. I love that it won’t be a messy face kit at all! @lipglossandspandex you really did a wonderful job on your face and beautiful eyes! So prutty! :)
These kits are just adorable! Many are going to be very happy this holiday season..
    Great review!

    1. I’ve seen some palettes that have a temporary plastic bit that covers the whole palette, but not a nice little flip lid for just the lipsticks. LOVE it.

  3. Those shadows look fantastic! Gorgeous! I love the little cases these are packaged in, too cute!

  4. LOVE the packaging and the colors… looks like another great holiday kit from MAC!

  5. I almost don’t care about the contents, that packaging is so cute–it would look great on a 30’s era vanity. In fact, those colors would look great on a 30’s era movie star–or wannabe of another era (like me).

    1. I’m the with you @sherrishera – this could almost be empty and I’d still want it!
