MAC for Disney’s Maleficent – swatches and review
“Disney’s most iconic villain, brought to life in this summer’s epic new film, inspires a limited-edition colour collection in specially designed packaging to delight the most demanding of dark sorceresses. Intensely admired for her evil elegance, despite her efforts to instill fear in the hearts of generations, this icon casts a spell of absolute adoration with sensuous shades so wickedly gorgeous, who needs beauty sleep?” ~ MAC Cosmetics
I’ve said it a million times – I’m addicted to MAC’s limited edition collections. I shake my fist at the sky and curse as I hand over my credit card, yet then forget it ever happened as I cradle my beautiful little compacts, whispering and cackling, “My preciousssss”. And the MAC Maleficent collection had me transfixed from the moment I heard that such a collection would exist!
From the second I saw Angelina Jolie as Maleficent in a movie trailer, I knew that this collection would be epic. While MAC has done a Villainous Villains collection in the past, which included Maleficent, it’s exciting to see a collection focused around just one villainess, that featured shades that are very true to the character and theme, but also classic and wearable.
Maleficent Eye Shadow X4 ($44)
Carbon – matte black
Concrete – matte grey/brown/taupe
Ground Brown – matte brown
Goldmine – deep gold
Packaging Note: This quad is in “limited edition” palette packaging, but all four shades are permanent
This is one of MAC’s better quality quads, which have a reputation for sometimes being chalkier than their eyeshadow singles. It does need a good brow highlight/inner corner shade, like MAC Vanilla, to really complete it, but these shades do work well together, whether you’re going for a little dramatic or all out villain.
Penultimate Eyeliner ($21.50)
Available only in Rapidblack, a deep, rich carbon black, this liner is housed in limited edition packaging, but is a permanent shade. This eyeliner pen is awesome – perfect for a cat eye or any detailed eyeliner look. It applies smoothly and is really pigmented. It’s much easier to use than liquid liner.

Now let’s take a look at the gorgeous lip colors available in the MAC Maleficent collection!
Pro Longwear Lip Pencil ($21.50)
The only lip liner in Maleficent, Kiss Me Quick is available in this limited edition packaging, but is now a permanent shade. This is a re-released limited edition shade described as a “yellow red.” I’d say it’s nearly a true red, with slightly cool/blue tones. This pencil applies smoothly to my lips, without any tugging.
Maleficent Lipstick ($17.50)
There’s also only one lipstick in the line, True Love’s Kiss and it is limited edition. It’s a true “clean” red, in my favorite finish, amplified! It’s slightly brighter than MAC Russian Red (which is a matte formula). It’s lovely.
Pro Longwear Lipglass ($22)
Another limited edition item, this Lipglass comes in one shade, Anthurium, a true “clean” red. I didn’t like long wearing lipcolor until I found MAC’s Pro Longwear Lipglass – I think it’s really one of the best long wearing lip color products out there.
It is slightly sticky feeling, but I don’t mind at all, because it’s comfortable, shiny, and wears fairly evenly. Also of note, Anthurium is the first true pure “clean” red in this formula.

MAC Maleficent Nail Lacquer ($17.50)
There are three shades of nail lacquers, and we received Flaming Rose, another deep true red. Again, the shade is housed in limited edition packaging, but is also part of the permanent collection.
This is a glorious red! I think that MAC’s Russian Red nail lacquer is a little brighter, but they seem to be fairly similar.
MAC Maleficent Beauty Powder ($30)
This limited edition Beauty Powder comes in Natural, a “peachy pink”. It is formulated to be multi-purpose and can be used as a blush, highlighter, or overall powder, depending on your skin tone.
Honestly, I felt that this doesn’t seem to necessarily fit Maleficent’s character, but it sure is pretty. Sadly on my NC30-35 skintone, it was too light/sheer to be used as anything other than a finishing powder all over my face. Paler girls will be able to use it as a blush or highlighter.
As you can tell, I loooove this delightfully wicked collection! After all that temptation, it didn’t disappoint one bit.
we heartsters – do you find this collection as enticing as I do?

I kept saying “Ooo…” all the way through this post, this collection is just stunning. I think it might be one of the first MAC collections that I absolutely love every shade in it. And True Love’s Kiss?!? Holy crap, it’s gorgeous. I know it would be anathema to any beauty lover, but this is SUCH a good look for you @lipglossandspandex, you should wear it every day!!!
Thank you, @lyssachelle! I actually in the process of moving, and this collection is the only makeup not sealed up in boxes, so I’ve been wearing it a lot :) Not the red lip every day, but I think it’s really an awesome shade of red–good for everyone!
This collection is really cool and I love your Maleficent looks @lipglossandspandex! I purchased one thing from this collection which is the sculpting powder. I know you can get it from a MAC Pro store, but I was at Macy’s and figured the Maleficent packaging was an added touch. I’ve never had a sculpting powder work as well as this one does. It’s perfect for my skintone…I haven’t gone a day without it!
I would really like to get the sculpting powder and see how it looks on my skin! I love to accentuate my cheekbones. :) Not quite as much as Maleficent though!
I really wanted to do a costume look, with the contacts and headdress and everything… but I wanted to show everyone this is a super wearable collection too!
Maleficent is probably my favorite Disney villainess, so this collection is right up my alley. I love the eye look here, and True Love’s Kiss is so pretty.
I love your Maleficent look @lipglossandspandex! Very wearable, yet evil queen cool.
I was a bit bummed though that so much of the items are permanent collection. It’s good so you can continue to buy them, but sad because they don’t feel quiet as special.
That being said, that gorgeous lipstick and gloss sure is gorgeous!
@lipglossandspandex , your Maleficent look is almost too beautiful to be evil! The lip products are soooo pretty…
Great post and great pics @lipglossandspandex !
Love the eye shadows, what a sultry collection of colors, but yet very wearable! It looks great on you!
Finally, someone who appreciates this collection as much as I do! I go for a more natural look, I’m NW15, so I can’t get away with those darker looks. But as you said, there is something for everyone in this collection. I use the sculpting powder in sculpt daily. I had to buy the individual disc from the pro collection online, and then buy a huge blush palette with inserts to house it. I didn’t have many MAC blushes at the time, so the rest of my blushes are in individual packaging. So I was thrilled to see Sculpt in individual packaging, I ordered two the day it was released! The beauty powder intrigued me, I had read amazing reviews of the Marilyn one, and it seemed close to my skin tone, so I took a risk and ordered it too. The day it arrived I ordered another one. It looks peachy pink in the packaging, but they call it Natural for a reason. It matches my skin tone almost perfectly. I have been using it all over as a setting powder, as a base shade for eye shadow looks, and as a matte highlighter when appropriate(although I am new to highlighting). My only complaint is that it is a little drier and harder to pick up on a brush than most pressed powder products. If it doesn’t work out I can always return the second one, but it would be good for my makeup bag in my purse, because of its versatility. I was tempted by the eye shadow quad, but it looked very dark, and I see no reason to put permanent colors in a LE quad, when I could put it together myself for less, and personalize it to my complexion. Heads up though, all that goes out the window with the newly released Sharon Osbourne collection. I got the eye shadow quad and the mineralize skinfinish duo. The eyeshadows are perfect on me, and the dup has a peachy brown bronzer and the perfect shimmery light warm pink that is the perfect highlighter for me. Too bad its only one quarter of the pan! The bronzer is easily dupable, but I would buy a whole pan of the highlighter in a second. I wonder if there any dupes for that? Remember, I bought these products online and untested. I find that when I sm around a MAC counter, the LE products are always gone. So if I really want something, I buy it online, and it can sell out very quickly that way ad well. If anyone knows a good dupe for Sharon’s highlighter, let me know. I usually don’t like the LE products, both idealistically and for poor quality, but these two collections are well worth checking out. Thanks for your reviews.
@lipglossandspandex you look AMAZING!!! Your skills are insane!! You could totally be a make-up artist. Gorgeous work!! I wish that I could pull this red off!
I agree with @kellie that you have mad skills @lipglossandspandex! You always make me want to try whatever it is you’re wearing, and this collection is no different. I’d have never wanted that eye quad until I saw you wearing it…now it’s on my list!
