Luck (and Lips) be a Lady Tonight
Nothing says “lady” like lipstick. Gloss has its place in this world – and an extensive plot in my makeup caddy – but stick is still king when it comes to all-out glamour pusses and serious professional pouts. As luck would have it, MAC’s latest Mineralize Rich Lipstick collection (part of the permanent line) is created to appeal to both traditional lipstick aficionados and the lighter gloss and balm fans.
Each Mineralize Rich Lipstick ($22) contains a seventy-seven Mineral Moist Complex meant to nourish lips with a light, non-sticky moisturizing formula. What this means for us is a super velvety-smooth application that feels effortless. The moisturizing formula feels like a balm but the color impact is all lipstick, baby.
All these lipsticks are housed in MAC’s classic black tube, made slightly more bulbous to perhaps suggest the size of the big bullet of color inside. The case snaps to a magnetic close, keeping the lid on until you take it off. Ladylike indeed!
Rounded bullet shape, as shown on Lady at Play
The finish of these lipsticks is dewy, and the color is buildable. One stroke from the extra large bullet is enough for high-impact color that sticks to the lips like a stain and lasts nearly as long. A few extra swipes build to a more traditional-type creamy lipstick crescendo.
I tested three of the six lovely shades the we heart this team received for review:
Lady at Play, All Out Gorgeous, Posh Tone
Lady at Play – bright, cool tangerine cream
All Out Gorgeous – deep wine red
Posh Tone – warm medium nude
Dreaminess, Grande Dame, Divine Choice
Dreaminess – milky cool pink
Grand Dame – medium rosy pink
Divine Choice – cool pink with a hint of fuschia
Lady at Play, All Out Gorgeous, Posh Tone, Dreaminess, Grande Dame, Divine Choice
Lady at Play has a little more pink in it than the tangerine descriptor would have you think. This pink makes the color much more wearable than an all-out orange and makes Lady at Play my favorite of these colors for spring.
A closer look at Lady at Play, All Out Gorgeous and Posh Tone
All Out Gorgeous is a dark, winey red – a color I usually retire this time of year. However, the balmy feel suggests a sheerness that is at odds with the opacity of color, making All Out Gorgeous a contender for all seasons. Why not wear it with that little black sundress?
An up close look at Dreaminess, Grande Dame and Divine Choice
Grand Dame is the one I had highest hopes for, and I can’t say I’m disappointed. The rose cream is a perfect nude for us fair-skinned neutrals. I imagine it will look just as good as spring gives way to summer and fair skin is tinged with golden glow. The name inspires me to wear Grand Dame beachside while sipping champagne as the sun sinks to the sand in Gatsby-esque fashion.
MAC is great at creating a narrative while giving the consumer superior products. Mineralize Rich Lipstick wrote the story ladies have been dying to tell: that of moist lips, sheer feel, and rich, long-lasting classic color.
Ladies – does a good lipstick make you feel like a new woman? It makes me feel fresh as a Daisy Buchanan.

That red looks amazing!!
A good lipstick totally makes me feel like a new woman! “Lady at Play” – what a great name to boot!
All Out Gorgeous is ALL OUT GORGEOUS!
I was the lucky tester of Dreaminess. It is a wonderful pink that is great for Spring and a versatile color to wear overall. I am a person who has issues with dry lips. As most of you know many formulations of lipstick can be make my lips feel like they are on death row. (The dryness, cracks and peeling makes my lips feel like death.)
However– NOT this lipstick it is actually moisturizing! This has been my go to color
The texture sounds dreamy, and the colors are so pretty. I’m so happy that they’re part of the permanent line for a change! Will be heading to MAC to check these out in person.
Oooo, pretty. I’m not a huge lipstick fan, but a lipstick that doesn’t FEEL like a lipstick? I can get on board with that. I’m with @krista on All Out Gorgeous, but Posh Tone strangely speaks to me too. And it’s nice to know these are permanent, no need to rush to the MAC store before they run out!
Also, I LOVE the Gatsby references, @sherrishera! Sounds like someone will be as excited for May 10th as I will! :-)
I’m seriously excited for Gatsby! That, and A Tale of Two Cities are my most re-read classics (totally different but I love them both). But Gatsby’s boozy Jazz Age and fab fashion are a big draw for me. Come May, I’ll be at the movies in something flowy and white, sporting the Grand Dame.
Nice work, @sherrishera! Yes, I feel polished and “Grace Kellie like” when I apply a fine lipstick, especially with a good brush. Those pinks are calling my name . . .
Grande Dame has my name all over it, love that color. I will have to add it to my “to buy” list for sure!
Grande Dame, you must be mine! That has “my brand-new go-to work lipstick” written all over it. A fresh application of lipstick can make a day turn around in no time!
That red looks amazing and the texture sounds dreamy for sure! That’s a lot of wow factor going on here!
I sometimes do not feel elegant enough to wear lipstick (maybe it has something to do with the fact that I always end up with it on my teeth…)
In any case, these Mineralize Rich lipsticks are quite nice. I tested Posh Tone, and found it to be a flattering warm, medium nude shade. The texture was more moisturizing than MAC’s regular lipstick, which was nice. I like that they’re not strongly scented (just MAC’s signature vanilla). The texture is smooth, there’s the perfect amount of shine. I don’t care for the bulkier packaging, or the magnetic closure (I’m paranoid it will come undone and get all over my purse!). And I’m a little underwhelmed by the price point–these are $22 for 0.12 oz, and regular MAC lipsticks are $15 for 0.10 oz. (Sheen Supreme and ProLongwear lipsticks are both 0.12 oz, and are only $16 and $18 respectively). However, that’s not to say that these lipsticks aren’t worth it–they do feel nice on the lips, there are some great colors, and it’s just an overall good product.
I happily tested Divine Choice. I liked the heavier packaging, actually, and I love the color and creamy consistency. I do feel like the wear time is pretty short, but I generally have that issue w/all lipsticks, so I wasn’t really expecting anything different. I particularly liked the smooth application–my lips were a little chapped when I tested this and it didn’t clump on the rough areas, just sleeked right over them.
These look so pretty…I’m feeling Lady at Play for a hot summer lip! I am having trouble looking at these lipstick tubes because I’m so used to the standard MAC ones but they seem really cool with the magnetic closure!
Lady At Play is so pretty! I also think Grand Dame looks really close to Viva Glam Cyndi.
