A Gentle New Facial Scrub from a Skincare Giant

Exfoliating scrubs are truly one of the pleasures of life. There’s nothing like a little grit in your face wash to soften and smooth skin, slough off dead skin and to take a wrinkle or two with it along the way. But what scrubs to trust? Some scrubs are too abrasive; some have a creamy texture that does more to clog pores than to clean them. So when Mario Badescu says they’re introducing their new Botanical Exfoliating Scrub ($26) for all skin types, I know to expect good things.

Mario Badescu has been a trusted name in skincare since 1967. The experience of nearly half a century has yielded skincare products that combine the most effaceous ingredients with a botanical base, to give you and me healthy, beautiful skin. All this and an affordable price, too. The simple green and white, no-frills packaging is now iconic in its apothocaric simplicity. Mario’s Botanical Exfoliating Scrub does not disappoint its forerunners, providing that beautiful skin at an affordable price.

I love that the base of the scrub is a gel rather than a cream. The gel is cool, transparent and light, so I don’t feel like I’m smothering my skin. In fact, the gel is comprised of many nourishing botanicals, including ginger, ginkgo, green tea, aloe and coconut. The grit of the scrub is finely ground Ecuadorian Ivory Palm seeds that are not harsh at all, reminding me of a fine sugar scrub or silica such as diatomaceous earth. The scrub does not irritate, but it does rejuvenate.

I also love that this scrub is so gentle that I can use it every day. Due to my sensitive skin and slight roseacea, I usually find that I can only use a facial scrub once a week or so. Soft, clean, supple skin is now mine to be had every day of the week!

The Botanical Exfoliating Scrub is paraben free and, as with all Mario Badescu products, not tested on animals. Also, as with other MB products, there are very few preservatives in this scrub, so the shelf life is slightly diminished (6-8 months). I’m quite sure I will have used all of my 3.4 oz tube long before it expires, however.

Ladies and Gentlemen, you are going to love this scrub! I’d love to hear you share your love of all things Mario Badescu.

  1. Mario Badescu has been regarded highly by me for years, and I’m picky when it comes to just what I use! The company really tries to find the best natural ingredients as indicated by the quality and nourishing products they use. Which is why it’s a no brainer, that I’m interested in this product. I currently use the Herbal Hydrating Serum and Vitamin C Serum- GOLD to me!
    Great review!

  2. I’ll be picking some of this up the next time I’m at Nordstrom! I pretty much have to have any scrubs that promise increased radiance–they do not lie when they say cell turnover slows in your 30’s :/ Wah waaaaaah *sad trombone*

    Great post, @sherrishera!

  3. I was very excited to read your review, as I’ve long been a fan of this line. Their formulas always seem to work really well for me and I’m definitely going out to find a scrub!

  4. I am always looking for a great new scrub that has power but is also gentle. This sounds like a great possibility. I will give it a try.

  5. LOVE THIS STUFF. I received this as a small sample packet. I already used it 3 times but I feel like I could use it twice more until I use the last drop. So you know for this product a little goes a long, long way.

But now on to its effectiveness, I’m entirely impressed. My skin type is quite complicated- overall dry but prone to acne around the cheeks and chin, with persistent whiteheads on the forehead. I’ve always had little bumps here and there all over my face, especially around my chin area maybe due to hormonal imbalance. I reguarly use a Clarisonic in my cleansing routine, have used both chemical AND physical exfoliators, but wowx this scrub is by far the best one I’ve ever used. It got rid of the whiteheads instantly. It’s been about 5 days since I’ve been using it, and my skin is better than it has been the past 4 years (I visited Korea 4 years ago, and for some reason I came back with significantly better skin lol).

I am totally in love with this product. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever liked a skincare product so much that just thinking about it gets me excited. Is it the palm seeds? Is it the gingko extract? Is it the ginger and green tea extracts? Or is it the combination of all of these? Whatever that is, my skin seems perfectly compatible. I am so so impressed and looking forward to seeing the long-term results.
