I’ve adored fabulous bath and body products since I first discovered strawberry scented shampoo in elementary school. I’ve been obsessed with great smelling foamy (or creamy or bubbly), hair and body products ever since. So I was thrilled to check out Mistral, the French inspired and crafted line of exquisitely fragranced bath and body products.

Mistral founder, Matthew Tilker, was studying in Europe when he met a seventy-year-old master soap maker in Provence, France, who handcrafted extraordinary soaps using natural ingredients while following a 300-year-old triple milling process that had been passed for generations. Matthew was greatly inspired by the soap maker and the incredible landscape of the region; the deep blue skies and lush fields of herbs and flowers.

He returned to America and began crafting his own line of lush soaps, while revisiting Provence to work with the natural surroundings and world-class perfumers. Soon, he opened the Mistral boutique stocked with his French custom crafted creations in his hometown of Solana Beach, California. An instant hit, Mistral products today are world renowned for their luxurious formulas and can be found in some of the most selective boutiques in the country. Happily, you can also purchase Mistral products through Amazon if you’re unable to get to a store and sniff every scent.

If you love pure fragrances, you will adore Mistral products. Mistral scents such as Gardenia and Grapefruit smell just as they do in nature – there’s no sugary or synthetic odor at all. The rich, natural aromas are crafted by perfumers in Provence, taking advantage of the fertile surroundings, they “select pure steam-distilled oils, essences of flowers and fruits for their natural benefits, and use time-honored techniques refined and enhanced over the centuries. Every Mistral formulation blends the best of modern science with the age-old wisdom and traditions of the past.”

The attention to detail and quality carries over to every item in the Mistral line. You will find simple formulas that clean, exfoliate or moisturize the body with natural, plant based ingredients while soothing the mind and spirit with their heavenly scent. Bath lovers will rejoice over the foaming shower gels, hydrating liquid hand soaps and soothing lotions. Our we heart this team received an array of Mistral products for testing, so check the comments for individual product reviews.

In the meantime, the first place to look when checking out Mistral is their amazing collection of French Milled Shea Butter Soaps. Based on those 300-year-old traditions, the soaps are available in some incredibly tempting scents (I suggest Orange Blossom Green Fig or Fresh Cut Mint.) Can’t pick just one? 1. Being a big gardenia lover, I chose the Gardenia Royal Foam Bath to test. Sadly, I don’t have time for baths but I’ve been using it in the shower. It’s a beautiful scent. A real light gardenia, and like Tyna mentions there’s none of that synthetic, fake fragrance you get in a lot of products. It’s like smelling a gardenia blowing in the breeze. It also produces a real sudsy, moisturizing lather. A lovely product!

I’ve tried their soaps before as well. The range of scents is amazing. And they make the perfect gifts. Who doesn’t love a fancy soap?!

  2. I have to admit, it took some convicing to make myself unwrap my gorgeously packagied Shea Butter Soap in Tropical Flowers. The scent is a little strong and sugar-y sweet to me but the lovely, soft soap makes me feel girly and special every time I wash my hands!

Next time though, I’d go for Almond Milk or Cypress Lime! After perousing the website, I am coveting the glass scented candle in South Seas! Yum!

  3. I tested the grapefruit hand cream and was blown away by the scent. It smells as if you cut a grapefruit in half and sniffed. Exactly like the fruit with no sugary or chemically scents – love it! It’s also a very rich moisturizer that’s not too greasy (it’s pretty strong so it doesn’t all soak in right away). Works really nicely on hands, nails and cuticles as well. Would try this again – want to try the Vanilla Apricot next!

  4. I was really excited to try the Melon Pear Bath Salts because Melons and Pears are my all time favorite fruits. And like everyone else so far the scent was wonderfully strong, maybe a little to strong. But I dumped it in the tub anyway.

Once in the tub the scent became a nice melon-y pear that I loved, not to over bearing that I had to plug my nose, and not so faint that I had to keep adding salt to smell anything at all. And the it made my skin feel really soft.

What I loved most was the after affect…the salts left my skin feeling of so soft, even hours after my bath and I could still smell the wonderful melon pear on my skin. I couldn’t stop sniffing myself. And not to mention the tension in my shoulders is 10 times less! All in all, a great product! I want another pack!

  5. I was so happy to receive Mistral Bougie Parfumėe Lavender candle to test! I am the candle lady! I also love Lavender. We have made Lavender essences cones and sticks of our own. Honestly, I don’t but my hubby does! We often have lavender in our teas too.. They add creaminess somehow without the cream! Anyway, this lovely Mistral Glass Scented Candle is burning beautifully in my kitchen as I type this. It is very aromatic and is filling more than just the kitchen with the scent of fresh lavender flowers! The packaging is elegant and the candle is in a gorgeous faceted Belgian glass. It burns SIXTY hours! I was happy to see these candles at Roger’s Gardens in Corona Del Mar!
This candle is 100% pure vegetable was so it burns slowly and clean. The secret to keeping your candle for the sixty hours is to trim the wick and not burn it longer than 4 hours!
I would like to have this in Gardenia too.. I am crackers for that like Stef!

  6. I got to test the Mistral Almond Milk Organic Shea Butter soap. Let me just say that the scent is amazing–it’s a strong, but true almond scent. No fake chemically almond wannabe. Just sweet almond with a creamy undertone. It’s an exfoliating soap(thanks to ground almond powder)that was really moisturizing, too. I love things that multi-task. Mostly I’m a sucker for a great scent and this was one of them. I like that my skin retained this scent for a while and I caught myself huffing my arm every so often. My hubby, the bar soap lover of our household, quickly Bogarted my bar and snuck it into his bathroom (separate bathrooms is the secret to a happy marriage). He gave me the puppy dog eyes, too, so I wouldn’t take it back. That’s just wrong.

  7. I got to try out the Almond Milk Shea Butter Soap. I am a lover of exfoliating bar soaps. The Mistral Almond Milk was fantastic. One of the first things I noticed was the heartiness of the soap. Many small batch “artisan” soaps are whipped with so much air that they melt after a few uses. That was not so with the mistral soap. It was a generously sized bar with large, but not too large pieces of ground almond. It was very nice and dense and lasted for several uses. (!

  8. Sorry. My comment was cut off due to my inability to make my fingers to do as they are told.

The fragrance of the Almond Milk was also very pleasant. It wasn’t overpowering and had a pleasant nutty smell. The almond pieces were large enough to leave you feeling clean without making me feel like I just scrubbed with a brillo pad. I enjoyed this and would definitely use it again.

  9. I tried the Melon and Pear extra rich body lotion. First of all, the scent is super yummy! It’s a perfect scent for summer…fruity and fresh, but not too overpowering. The scent also stays with you awhile which is nice. I love the texture of this lotion. It is very moisturizing and keeps my skin feeling soft long after I apply it. It has just the right amount of moisture for everyday use. Perfect lotion for summer in my opinion! I also love that it has a pump on top. Easy to apply and one of the first things I grab when I hop out of the shower. Would also look beautiful sitting on a bathroom counter. I would love to try some of their other scents. This one is a keeper!

  10. I had the “Mer du Sud” South Seas Bath Salts. I’m usually not so fancy with my bath stuff; I love honeysuckle and freesia so Bath and Body Works usually works just fine for me.
The Mistral bath salts did have a pleasant scent–sophisticated without being grandmotherly. I sort of imagined an island girl gathering plumeria or flowering ginger or something like that, and walking back to her lean-to on the beach with surf lapping at her heels. Ahh.
Well, that is what the salts smell like. Unfortunately for me, my bathtub has an automatic drain that’s not working properly so I had to use my “Mer du Sud” in my sink bowl. There, I couldn’t really close my eyes and pretend to be that island girl with the plumeria; I did however, smell like said island girl when my birdbath was complete. I do wish I could have soaked a bit to see if my skin turned as soft as a tropical flower petal. I’ll bet it would have.

  11. I tried out the Petit 100% Pure Shea Butter and let me tell you, it rocks! It’s the perfect size to keep in your purse, and is the perfect rescue for dry lips, cuticles, even hair! Seriously, I used a bit on my ends when they were looking a little “thirsty” and it did the trick!

It works really well as a treatment for your lips if you put it on right before bed. And this little tin is only $7.50 & will last awhile! It’s a little bigger than a Burts Bee’s lip tin, to give you an idea of it’s size. I have the unscented one but I bet the Lavender or Vanilla Apricot would be amazing too.

I definitely want to try out their soaps and bath salts! 5 stars from me!!
