I always believed that I would outgrow my acne one day. I believed that once I reached a certain age, I would suddenly have earned the right to enjoy beautiful smooth skin. What a lie that was! I am sure that it happens for some, but for many of us it doesn’t.

I am always trying different products to treat my acne, but often run into a common problem: these products are designed to treat teen acne, not adult acne. There are many differences between the two types. Teen acne is often triggered by oily skin, while adult acne is typically triggered by hormonal changes and slower cell turnover.

Treatment also varies greatly for the different types of acne. Teen acne often responds better to more intense treatment, with higher dosages of active ingredients. Adult acne, on the other hand, is often best-treated with gentle products that contain more time-released ingredients that fight both acne and aging with mild exfoliation.

You may ask, “Where do such amazing adult acne products exist?” Well, in the mind of Dr. Murad, of course. As proven with his new Anti-Aging Acne Regimen.

Step one in the system is the Time Release Acne Cleanser (6.75oz for $32), designed to both cleanse and tone. Murad claims it “provides up to 8 hours of continuous acne control while also containing amino acids and hyaluronic acid to bind moisture to skin, restoring youthful suppleness.”

This is a great cleanser. It feels rich and creamy, is non-foaming and has no distinct overbearing scent. My skin has felt cleaner and looked smoother since I have started using it.

Step Two, designed to treat and repair is the Advanced Acne & Wrinkle Reducer (1.0oz for $44). It’s a “0.5% encapsulated salicylic acid acne medicine which penetrates deep into pores to clear hormonal breakouts while also diminishing redness.”

I have absolutely seen a distinct reduction in my acne breakouts since I have begun using this product. Rich with ingredients that have anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, I have experienced zero dryness. I do not use it as a spot treatment, I use it over my entire face. The few breakouts that I have experienced since starting this product have been small and short in duration.

Step three, coming in to hydrate and protect, is the Anti-Aging Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30/PA+++ for blemish-prone skin (1.7oz for $48) contains an “oil control complex that uses extracts from saw palmetto, sesame seed, and argan kernel to regulate oil and to help keep pores clear.” The really interesting ingredient is a Kombucha Collagen derived from black tea ferment that’s said to reduce the appearance of fine lines.

I have been so impressed with this moisturizer. I often have mixed results with products that contain sunscreen. This really worked for my sensitive skin and did not create the dreaded white cast that many sunscreens seem to leave. Since I have begun using this moisturizer, my skin has felt smoother and looked clearer than it has in years. I was also impressed by how well this moisturizer worked to control the oil production on my face.

I have never really used a complete system before, but I now see the value in using products that were designed to complement each other. The Murad Anti-Aging Acne Regimen is amazing. I was blown away by the effectiveness and my skin has never looked or felt so good. I have battled acne my whole life, and have tried countless products. Murad has, thus far, given me the best results for my adult acne.

we heartsters – what are your favorite acne-fighting products, and will you be trying this Murad line?

  1. I am still so in love with these products. Yesterday, I kid you not, someone told me that my skin was glowing and was unusually clear. I was so excited! I instantly told them about Murad. Give this line a try-you may be very pleasantly surprised!!!

  2. I have this trio sitting on my sink right now, up next for testing. And a batch of hormonal acne on my chin that’s days are numbered…

  3. Although my skin isn’t acne-prone, I love every product I’ve ever tried from Murad. Their anti-aging products are amazing. I’m so glad this trio is a winner, @kellie76!

  4. I’m pushing 40 and my skin is pushing 13. What’s up with that? I’ll definitely have to give this line a look-see because I adore Murad and their products really deliver! Great post, @kellie76!

  5. Preaching to the choir here. Why oh why can’t we just grow out of it? Any suggestions on which one would be the most helpful to start with if I can’t grab all three at once?

  6. I love Murad and have used this line before, I am currently just using the anti aging product regimen they have but I have had a few breakouts lately so I may get back into this one. I haven’t found a product I didn’t like from them.

  7. I too, suffer from adult acne and have tried everything on the market. I have a pretty good routine going now, but the streak never lasts long, so I will definitely try this next!
    Great review!

  8. I still occasionally struggle with acne, and I loooove Murad. I definitely want to try that sunscreen and acne/wrinkle reducer serum!
