Like sand in the hourglass…redness, freckles and sunspots are part of most of our lives. Not anymore!

MURAD Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serumphotos: we heart this

When I first received Murad’s Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serumicon I was very intrigued. My mind immediately when through my usual skincare questions when looking at a product:

Who is this for? What are the active ingredients? How does it work? What steps do I need to take to use this to its full potential? (Afterall, you can have a great product but, if you use it improperly, the results will be poor.)

The latest from Dr. Murad falls into the the treat and repair category of skincare. This serum is for anyone who has sun spots, freckles, acne scarring and redness that they want to lighten and minimize. And seriously, after a few decades of life, who doesn’t?

Muradicon claims this product works because of the quality ingredients it contains; first and foremost 2% Hydroquinone, aka the ‘gold standard’ in spot skin lightening. This is the highest percentage you can get over the counter without a doctor’s prescription. Take that old acne spots.

Another ingredient, Hexapeptide-2, also has lightening properties but it does double duty by helping to prevent future damage by stopping pigment formation. Lastly, the serum contains glycolic acid, which gives a helping hand in exfoliation and overall penetration of the serum.

A big plus is that this treatment is easy to use. Just apply a thin layer over face, neck, chest and hands every evening after cleansing and toning.

I found the Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum ($60) to be very concentrated and a little goes a long way. I would suggest trying a half or even a quarter pump so you don’t waste any product. While I am typically very good at following directions, I will confess I never use toner. After I washed my face, I let the serum soak in for a bit before I applied moisturizer on top.

It may be implied that if you have age spots, freckles, photo damage or scarring that you are already wearing sunblock anytime you step outside. However, I am going to say it strongly and directly, WE ALL NEED SUNBLOCK when we are outside. However, you especially need it anytime you are using anything that accelerates exfoliation. That tender new skin that just appeared is especially vulnerable to damage.

Murad promises to reduce the appearance of sun spots and age spots by 33% in one week. The only sun spots I have are on my hand and it is hard to quantify a 33% reduction. But, I would say that is a fairly accurate statement. This product did make my skin appear brighter and younger and did not irritate my sensitive skin.

Pros:
Fades scars and spots
Helps reduce redness
Doubles as an antiaging treatment, overall my skin is brighter and younger

Cons:
Unusual smell
I wish there was a size for body (You know it is a good product when it creates a need you did not know you had. I found some areas on my shoulders and arms I would like to treat.)

  1. @hao9703 , this is exactly the kind of product that gets my full attention! I know what you mean about wishing for a body-sized product, too! I’ve had great results from other Murad products, and will consider investing in this one thanks to your review.

  2. I actually just purchased this product a few weeks ago and I have seen a very big decrease in pigmentation from scarring, sun spots etc on my face. I was actually surprised to see a reduction in as little as five days of using this, which made me an even bigger believer in Murad’s products. I don’t think there’s any way around the smell, which I think comes from all those hard working acids in it. I’ve ordered quite a few Murad goodies the last couple months and have been very happy with everything! For the moment, they’ve become my new skincare line!

  3. Murad can do no wrong!
I’m with you, my spots are on my shoulders. I never, ever had freckles of any sort until I got one really bad burn and BAM! The freckles arrived next year. I’m not crazy excited about them, so I’m unlikely to spend $60 to get rid of them, but if there was a version for body (or even a body/face combo) that was slightly cheaper I would totally go for it!

  4. I gave this product 5 stars! I feel like it really did deliver great results that I saw in a very short time.

  5. I really like how you ask some key questions before and while you test out a product! It really helps me a lot when considering which products to look into. Your review was really helpful overall. I have a lot of redness and acne scarring that I’d love to get treated, but figured I would have to go to a derm. But you and Erin have me convinced that this product would actually be worth the $60 price tag.
