Brace yourselves, the beauty world is about to go dotty

Polish: Maybelline Clearly Spotted, from the Color Show Polka Dots collection

Don’t you love when a collection is worth the hype? There’s nothing worse than ramping up for highly touted launch, only to be left with a “meh.” Dear readers, I predict not a single meh will be uttered with Color Show Polka Dots by Maybelline!

Maybelline Clearly Spotted

First launched in the UK, the dots have finally landed on US soil and they are well worth the wait. The five polishes all have black and white multi-sized and shaped dots suspended in a jelly base, except for the lone clear; Clearly Spotted, which is my favorite of the bunch.

Beauty Junkies Unite and All Lacquered Up have beautiful images of Clearly Spotted on naked nails (plus swatches of the other four Polka Dots polishes). But I loved it best when used over a color polish with a creme finish. My favorite combo was paired with the bright bubblegum pink shade Anime by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics.

Maybelline Clearly SpottedJust one thickly applied coat, that’s it!

It’s pretty darn fab over Wasabi by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics too, a bright chartreuse.

Whether it reminds you of a formica countertop, a Jackson Pollock painting or something you may have seen on a 80s sweatshirt (worn falling off one shoulder, of course) – there’s something decidedly retro about Clearly Spotted. And you know we love that!

we heartsters, will you be going dotty this summer with the Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots launch?

  1. Ooo!!! I’m always on the lookout for top coats (or polishes that can be used top coats) to jazz up my polish collection. And to justify me buying MORE polish! :-)
I really like how the different shapes keep this interesting and I love it over that pink! My China Glaze Flying Dragon is a neon purple and I bet it would look fabulous over that too! This is definitely on my list next time I’m at Target or CVS!

    1. I’m with you @lysachelle – multi sized and shaped is where it’s at!

  2. I’m not *too* big on the look of these dotty manicures, but I must say this is BIG for drugstores! I blame the crazy nail polish community for bringing these unique polishes readily available for everyone and not just boutique online retailers. It’s pretty awesome!

  3. Wow, that’s just one coat? That’s awesome! I really like how it looks over the bright creme polishes. You’re right, it looks a lot like paint splatter nail art (without the mess! Bonus!!!). Chunky glitter can be a little annoying, but I would like to try Clearly Spotted as a glitter gradient nail….That could be really cool.

  4. This would be so much fun for a summer party? I love that you achieved that look with a pretty pink. Now is the time when I can be daring with my nails since I’m not working during the summer.

  5. I love the speckled look! My local Rite Aid has a few of the shades on sale, so I happily brought them home with me. Woohoo!

    1. Scoop these up if you see them – I predict they’re going to go FAST!

  6. This looks so neat! I am not always a fan of the “unique” finishes. But this one is super unique. I am totally down for this. And it sounds so easy-which I need!!
