How To Make A Statement Like a Star

NARS Brows

Eyebrows are easily the most important feature on our face. More so than even the eyes themselves, eyebrows define us. Some say the only makeup they won’t leave the house without is mascara or lipgloss. I’m going to belly up and say it’s the brow that should be our focus, that one thing we perfect before schlepping to the grocery store in our yoga pants.

A well-groomed brow makes a statement, be it a natural one (Brooke Shields), a ladylike one (Audrey Hepburn) or a fierce one (Joan Crawford). So, how do we get brows like those? Calling NARS…hello Brow Perfector and Brow Gel?

NARS is all about making statements. Forever creating independent and strong beauty types on fashion’s most famous runways, Francois Nars has said “Find your own way, have an open spirit and believe in your own beauty.” Well folks, say that with an eyebrow. And use NARS Brow Perfector and Brow Gel to say it loud and clear!

NARS brow gel

NARS Brow Perfector ($22) is a waxy retractable stick that smoothly fills in the brow while depositing its color coating on skin and hair. The pencil itself is quite skinny, allowing for ultimate control when shaping and coloring any size or style brow.

I tried Kalamata, a light brown. My hair and brow color is a medium reddish brown, and while I advocate using a brow pencil a shade or two lighter than your hair color since I feel darker brows tend to age a gal, Kalamata was perhaps one shade too light for me. There are four shades to choose from, however, and this is an easy fix. A big plus is that this stays put in water and wears all day without smudging.

The NARS Brow Gel ($22) is just one of those products every single one of you out there needs. And ladies, I’m not just talking to you.

I tried the Brow Gel in Oural, a clear gel housed in a mascara-like matte black tube with an equally mascara-like tapered brush wand. There are three other tinted gels for those who desire a little more color. Even those out there like me with fine hair and sparse brows will see how polished brows look when combed and set neatly in place with a little Brow Gel.

I also used this on my bushy-browed husband after I trimmed his nearly braidable brows. What a difference! Forget drawing that perfect arch, if you’ve ever used a comb you can use this. Easy-Peasy.

So, this fall when you’re shopping for that statement bag, the statement necklace or those statement shoes, don’t forget your statement brows – they’re the ones that will do all the talking.

Ladies, what do your brows say about you?

  1. Great review–I am now obsessed with procuring the brow gel and subjecting my husband to brow taming! My natural brows are just kind of meh and wimpy; it truly is amazing what a little shaping can do.

  2. Great review sherrishera! I am learning how to do my brows now.. I never took too much attention to them but since @stef has been teaching me her tips on how to do them right, I’ve been happy with the results. I also think that this product is the one a co-worker has gone ape sh@# over.. I’ll double check in the morning! It sure sounds like the one!

  3. Brows…You’ve all heard me rant and obsess over them a million times. Everybody’s got ’em, but a lot of people don’t seem to know what to do with them! A little grooming and some brow product can go a long way.

    1. AGREED! This from someone who neglected their brows for years and years before discovering their ultimate importance to the face! Never forget. I feel like I need some Dio-like hand symbol of eyebrow unity. Boo-Ya!

    2. …And that’s why you have really great brows!!!

  4. My brows are super sparse but still I’m able to see their frame. The pencil is great for lightly filling in those sparse parts but the best is definitely the gel. Pluck the strays and comb with some gel for the very LEAST you can do for your brows.

  5. I need that brow gel. I don’t even use a brow gel. So that’s a good reason to get NARS’ right?

  6. I love brow gels and can’t believe I’ve never tried NARS’. I’m picking this up first chance I get. Thanks, @sherrishera !

  7. Sometimes I love my brows, but I tend to be very forgetful of taming them. The brow gel looks interesting!

    1. I feel like I have an “ah-ha” moment everytime I do them! It’s like, “why do I ever skip doing my brows?” Though I have to admit, I don’t skip much anymore with all the great brow products that have come into my life lately.
