Save Your Skin With Salma’s Secret (and Super) Products

We’ve previously discussed our love for the Nuance Salma Hayek line of products at CVS and I’m going to continue our love fest. When it’s cold and chilly outside, lips peel, skin gets troubled and hands crack. Lucky for us, Nuance offers these three products that are going to improve your winter woes!

1. Nuance Ageless Clarity White Clay Treatment Mask ($12.99) – My skin gets so cranky in the winter. With a wood stove burning constantly and the heat on, my skin enters a vicious cycle. My skin gets dry, I tend to over-moisturize, it gets too oily, I break out, I use some sort of acne treatment, my skin dries back out and peels, I glop on more heavy creams, and so on and so forth.

I’ve recently gotten into the habit of using masks to treat my upset skin and this mask from Nuance has been taking up a major spot in my rotation. Containing white clay to absorb oil, tepezcohuite (derived from a shrub native to South America and parts of Mexico that Mayans used to treat lesions for over a thousand years), lemon extract to lift away impurities and improve tone, and calendula extract to calm and soothe, this mask is perfect for temperamental skin.

I am a big fan of the slightly citrus/herbal fragrance – it’s a nice blend of soothing and invigorating, if that makes any sense. I find that when I’m using this I can skip the heavier creams and the acne treatments and get away with just a gentle acne-fighting face wash and some moisturizing SPF when I’m done. If I need to spot treat, I dab a little bit of this on a blemish and it’s gone by the next day or two – my skin is finally calm!

2. Nuance Rose Petal Hydrating Balm ($7.29) – I love a good lip balm and I require one in the winter. This balm fits the bill – the formula is a bit heavier and longer lasting than other rose-based balms on the market and the rose scent isn’t as intrusive.

The Rose Petal Hydrating Balm contains evening primrose, which is high in fatty acids and an excellent conditioner and shea butter for nourishment. As well as calendula flower extract, beeswax, and sunflower and jojoba oils. Lips never had it so good!

I put a little bit of this on in the morning under my lipstick and a dab on before bedtime and my poor chapped lips finally have healed after just a couple of weeks. My only complaint (and I say this with love so that the people at Nuance can fix this because the product inside deserves better) is to come up with a new jar. The balms I have tested do not seal properly and the lid loosely slides around and never gets a tight seal. Sadly, the jar compromises the portability and longevity of the product. However, I love the actual balm so much, it is not a deal-breaker and still makes my list of must-haves.

3. My Secret Super Brightening Hand Cream ($9.99) – If Salma Hayek has any more beauty secrets, I want them. NOW. This lovely hand cream contains nourishing shea butter, healing honey, and conditioning and calming evening primrose. The ingredients are just what my poor, little hands needed lately. Even better, for those of you with them, this is supposed to reduce the appearance of age spots.

This dense and rich cream smooths on and starts working immediately – my chapped hands felt almost instant relief. Like the treatment mask, I really enjoyed the vaguely citrusy/herbal fragrance. I’m very sensitive to scents and this one didn’t bother me at all. After only using this at bedtime, I found that this made a noticeable difference in my hands and fixed my dried out cuticles after about a week. Loving this!

So, if you’re like me, and doing your best to brave this harsh and chilly winter, these three products will help your skin and your piggy bank too. If you’re in a warmer part of the country, these products are still magnificent and worth adding to your rotation. But I also hate you just a little. I kid! (I don’t kid! Bwahaha!)

  1. I received Salma’s My Secret Super Brightening Hand Cream and it’s really great! It’s perfect for after washing your hands, especially if the soap is too drying (ouch!).I don’t like hand creams that are too heavily scented and this one’s great. This winter I’m all about keeping my hands hydrated and preventing them from looking dull, which can happen very easily if I neglect to moisturize them. My boyfriend likes using this too!

  2. Glad to see this line expanding. So far, I really have been impressed with her entire line.. The various products I’ve tried have been things that I’ve gone back to get again.. That’s saying a lot! The prices is awesome too! This looks awesome! Great review @krista!

  3. Based on your post, I put every single one of these on my shopping list, @krista ! Nuance Salma Hayek continues to impress me with its affordable, effective products. The Hand Cream sounds especially nice!

  4. I have already confessed my love for this line many times–but now I really want to try the hand lotion! I’ now on my second pot of the Rose Petal Balm (but haven’t had the annoying lid problem yet) and agree that it is super hydrating; I dab it on dry cuticles too.

  5. I like the idea of using shea butter and honey, two of my favorite ingredients for smooth skin.
    Thanks for sharing!

  6. As a tester of the Rose Petal hydrating balm, I like the product but, the packaging is cumbersome. It could be just my jar but, the lid is very hard to get off and on. I hate to waste product and I don’t want this to get dried out. I think I prefer a simpler application like a good ole tube.

    1. I agree! A tube would be way better than this jar. I also wouldn’t mind a nice, little compact.

  7. Ooh all three of these sound great and I love that they are at the drugstore so I can try them out without breaking the bank!

  8. I can’t wait to get back in the states to try these. Does anyone know how the balm compares to By Terry’s?

  9. Salma Hayek is a timeless beauty. Her beauty line is pretty great. I have not yet tried these three products but I will be scooting over to CVS pronto. Whod doesn’t want to steal some of her beauty secrets? Great review!! :)

  10. I would love, love, love to try that balm! It looks just like a much more expensive one I love (and won’t mention here).
I tried that Clay Mask. It has a lovely floral scent that’s fresh, not perfumey. After you wash this one off, your skin is so very soft and not at all dry like most (I think every) other clay mask I tried.
I have said it before but I’ll say it again–Nuance is my definite favorite all-around drugstore brand. It deserves to be in department stores and should cost more. I am very, very happy that it doesn’t!
