We’re happy to bring you a line that was introduced to us by natural (and fabulous!) celebrity makeup artist Christy Coleman when we interviewed her a few months ago…
As both a vegetarian and a beauty product junkie, it‘s no surprise that I’ve tried almost every eco-friendly line out there. However, since my make up addiction began in my college years, through my shopaholic 20’s, to my time spent writing a weekly green beauty column online, I’ve constantly searched for an organic, high quality make up line. Body and hair products, skin care – all readily available in eco-friendly versions. But, finding high-end blushes, eye shadows, mascaras and more? Not so easy.
That’s why I’m excited to introduce you to Nvey Eco, a certified organic make up line from Australia that arrived in the States in 2006. Nvey Eco is a known pioneer in bringing glamour and style to the most stringent organic standards. As they state on their website, “We believe if you are going to make a product organic…. you go all the way and make it certified organic.” To that end, Nvey ECO make up is one of the few lines that is OFC Certified Organic [Organic Food Chain Certificate Number #0464].
So what does that mean for you? It means that the colors you will be applying to your face are made with organic plant and mineral ingredients, natural botanicals and antioxidants to produce gentle and pure makeup for all skin types (and shades). And this isn’t your wishy-washy, soft and safe, natural line. You’ll find of-the-moment colors and highly pigmented powders to satisfy the true make up maven.
Our review team received a variety of eye shadows, blushes and bronzers to put to the test and they will share their thoughts in the comments. The Organic Eye Shadows are available in an array of gorgeous colors to take you from a daytime, natural look to a dramatic evening out. I found the powder delightful; it seemed to effortlessly sweep over my eyelids and was easily blended and layered to create varying degrees of color depth. The eyshadow base of Corn Silk and Jojoba oil may account for this breezy application. As far as the creaseless color that doesn’t cake in my fine eye lines? For that, I thank the Chamomile and Vitamins A, C, and E which Nvey Eco explains “make(s) for a smooth and soft formula.”
You’ll find this attention to detail and good for your skin ingredients in every item in the line. Additionally, every product is free of talc, parabens, preservatives, petroleum oil, Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS), Propylene Glycol or ingredients from genetically modified crops. And of course, Nvey Eco never tests on animals.
If you suffer from sensitive or extra dry skin, but yearn for make up pulled from the latest beauty fashion spread – we’ve found your answer! Eco-conscious shoppers and the make up obsessed will be delighted as well.
Testers (the most make up obsessed ladies I know), did this certified organic make up live up to your high style demands?
Ever since finding Bare Escentuals I haven’t used a bronzer other than “Warmth.” I have been thrilled with that one and really see no need to change.
On the other hand this Nvey Eco stuff is pretty darn good. The color isn’t orangey when you put it on, nor does it change colors after mixing with the oil on your skin. The powder (we get it in pressed form) is very fine and blends well.
The fact that it has no talc, preservatives, or any of that other nasty stuff that my face can’t take is an added plus. In fact, this reminds me of my much-loved “Warmth.” If I am in a position where Warmth is unavailable where this one is, I’d pick this up in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact, my current supply of Warmth is soon to expire and so long as i have my Nvey Eco I see no need to replace it.
Now, when my Eco runs out which will I purchase? For now, my loyalty remains steadfast to Bare Escentuals. But that could change if Nvey Eco seduces me further.
I’m gonna give this five stars because, even though I’ll probably remain true to my brand (for quality AND availability) the Nvey Eco put down a superior perfomance (neck and neck with my current brand) and I would not hesitate to use or reccommend it.
I tried the turquoise shimmer eye shadow and it’s lovely! A really nice texture and good staying power. Totally non irritating which is what you hope for!
Made with Chamomile and Vitamins A, C, and E how can you go wrong. All of their eye makeup says “great for sensitive, dry skin” so you know you’re getting something gentle. The color builds well and is pretty true to the color you see in your palette.
Like Sherrisherra said the fact these products are free from all the non skin friendly preservatives is also a huge plus.
It’s definitely not cheap, a palette of 5 shades is about $60 dollars, but the fact it’s got vitamins instead of God knows what and it’s going onto your skin, which will absorb it’s contents makes it worth the extra $$ :)
5 stars from me, for quality, texture, and staying power.
A great green line I will investigate more for sure.
Hip Hip Horary for fantastic organic eye shadow! I received Nvey Eye shadow in Deep Rose Shimmer (number 151- no it’s not Bacardi’s rum!). This really looks great with a tan and some rum- okay, only kidding. I feel like I’m beginning to branch out (finally) with the eye shadow colors that I’ve been useing. I am glad too. With this pretty rose, I coupled it with a light shimmering base and loved the blend. It’s perfectly matched for a summer day. For such a little bit on the brush, this has a lot of shimmer and shake to it, and I think it really turns into a lovely pink on my eye lids. I was glad to learn that this is one of Australia’s first organic makeup products to come to the states.. I thought that was cool. I knew in time that big beautiful county would send some goodness our way! They are seriously organic too.. The ingredients would impress you. You can read them at their website. I like that this is suited for all skin types. That really made a difference to me being that I have dry, sensitive skin! This shadow is finely milled and goes on smoothly. By the way, it’s only $24.00. Not too pricey for a product that is organic and in harmony with nature. They pick only certain plants and blend them into a beautiful product. This really looks great on my eyes, they look refreshed with the help of this light rose, with shimmery gold in the mix. I went outside on the patio to look at this in natural light, because the florescent lighting in my office is not the best to judge how one looks, if you know what I mean! Funny thing is I liked the look in both light settings. Thanks you for making this amazing product. It’s gorgeous! 5 big beautiful stars from me..
I received Nvey Eco’s organic powder blush in Rusty Bronze. Now, I don’t have any sensitive skin issues so I can’t comment on good it is for sensitive skin. Maybe it’s because I was born and live in New York City, but skin seems immune to airborne pollutants and other ickys. Lol.
Nvey Eco’s blush was really good although the sample packaging made it a bit hard to handle because it wasn’t tightly packed and I had difficulty dipping my blush brush in it. (It really irks me to have to put on my make-up with my hands.) Because I am Black, I tend to chose bronzers over traditional pink/terracotta blushes to color my cheeks. Even when using bronzers, not much color shows up on my face. Or, if it does, it looks a bit muddy. I didn’t have that problem with Nvey Eco’s Rusty Bronze.
Rusty Bronze gave my cheeks a nice healthy glow, there even seemed to be a bit golden shimmer. I felt fresh-faced and younger when I wore this blush and it wasn’t heavy on my skin at all. If I’m searching to add blush to my permanent make-up rotation, I would definitely buy this again (with the right finances and opportunity).
I tried the Periwinkle lavender eye shadow. And it was pretty. It is a light purple which I like for a base color. It stayed on all day and didn’t rub off.
I just wish that the darker purple that I put on top of it was as eco friendly.
I love that it is certified organic. It makes me feel better knowing that I’m putting something on my face that is healthy rather than toxic. And all the vitamins are a big plus too.
I tested one of the organic eye shadows in Shade # 167 Bronzed Marigold Shimmer. First of all, as I mentioned in the post, I was very happy with this powders fine consistency and the way it glided over my eyelids. Even with the shimmer, this powder did not settle into lines or emphasis them in any way (which is a problem with many shimmery shadows). I found the powder lasted well, even without a primer (which I didn’t want to mix with this au natural product)! The color as mentioned was a bit more shiny then I would normally wear during the day, but the bronze color is fairly subtle on my fair skin and boy does it make blue eyes stand out!
I’m really excited to try out a blush and see how the formula works on a larger and different patch of skin – there’s some really pretty shades too!
.-= Tyna´s last blog ..Calling vintage lovers: The Maynard L. Parker Collection =-.
I chose to try the 956 blush, a shade they call Earth Red. I’m going to compare this to Orgasm, a shade most people know. It looks a lot darker in the package, like it has some brown in there (hence Earth, I suppose). But it goes on very similarly; very peachy, VERY shimmery. It actually has a bit more shimmer than I’m liking these days. What I do like though is how finely milled it is. It almost feels like cream going on. It’s very smooth, not at all chunky, which for a shimmery blush, is great. I have some shimmer blushes that feel like they have hunks of who knows what in them! Christy Coleman didn’t steer us wrong, this line is rather fab.
I just have to start out sayin that I was totally impressed with organic cosmetics. Normally, I can take them, but mostly I’d leave them…sometimes you just need the chemicals to get any real staying power from your cosmetics.
NVEY ECO definitely proves this wrong. The soft and wearable shadows don’t crease or crumble and (with your favorite eye shadow primer you can really get a nice application! But, on the other hand, I didn’t really feel like it was anything extraordinarily out of the ordinary. But definitely a new line to come to!
