All you need is love… and a few NYX Love Palettes!
Even glamorous gals with makeup stashes the size of Mount Everest like to find inexpensive products that do the job as well as a high-end product, or maybe even better! Whatever the pricetag, it’s important that a company’s products have the three V’s: value, variety, and VA VA VA VOOM!
NYX does that. Their products are constantly being compared to higher end brands like MAC (do a Google search for “NYX MAC alternatives” and you’ll see!). The range of products and colors is absolutely incredible for any brand, but especially at this price point.
This spring, there’s even more NYX to love. There are FORTY FOUR new eyeshadow palettes in their “Love in …” collections. Whether you like brights or neutrals, shimmer or matte, it’s likely that you’ll find a palette that you find enticing.
Especially since every palette is housed in a sleek, glossy black plastic casing with a clear window in front and a cute plastic bow on the closure. Each palette has a dual ended sponge-tip applicator (which isn’t particularly useful, but at least it doesn’t take up much room). Still, there’s a lot to love about these affordable palettes. Let’s take a look!
NYX Love In Rio Eyeshadow Palettes ($6.00) – There are three shadows per palette, and with 22 different palettes to choose from they might have you dancing on the sand (sorry, couldn’t resist a Duran Duran reference)! The team got a look at two palettes from the Rio line:
Love in Rio: Life is a Cha Cha
Life is a Cha Cha is a cool shimmery grape trio of colors including a matte lilac, shimmery light purple and deep purple with blue iridescence shimmer
Life is a Cha Cha – matte lilac, shimmery light purple, deep purple
Love in Rio: Moonlight Skinny Dip
Moonlight Skinny Dip is a very lightly shimmered brown trio (perfect for everyday wear) with an off white, nude toffee and dark brown.
Moonlight Skinny Dip – off white, toffee, dark brown
NYX Love In Florence Eyeshadow Palettes ($8.00) – For just two bucks more, these palettes are larger in size with five complementary shadows in each, and ten palettes to choose from.
Love in Florence: Sunsets With Sophia
Sunsets With Sophia is filled with warm golden hues including a matte medium cool beige, peachy beige shimmer, golden brown shimmer, black with gold micro glitter and warm brown shimmer.
Sunsets With Sophia – matte beige, shimmer beige, golden brown shimmer, black with gold shimmer, warm brown shimmer
Ciao Bella has light grey satin, black satin, pink tinged gold shimmer, bright apricot with silver micro glitter, and brown-leaning taupe with silver micro glitter
Ciao Bella – light grey, black satin, gold shimmer, bright apricot and taupe with silver micro glitter
NYX Love In Paris Eyeshadow Palettes ($10.00) Finally, pulling out the big guns, the Love in Paris palettes each contain nine shadows, and there are twelve palettes to choose from.
Love in Paris: Love Affair with Louis
Love Affair With Louis is loaded with nine hues in shimmery blues and teal, the colors of the sea, flanked with a silver, white and black rounding out the blues.

Love in Paris: Je Ne Sais Quoi
Je Ne Sais Quoi is filled with shimmery browns and a couple of taupes, plus a cream, silver and plum for good measure. Stef, our swatcher, says that this palette had the most pigment of the six Love in… palettes we tested.

And the second half of Je Ne Sais Quoi
On that note, I tried several different primers and looks with these shadows but felt that they weren’t NYX’s best offering in terms of eyeshadow. I feel that their eyeshadow singles and regular palettes have more pigmentation and a creamier texture. While these are still decent products, and the colors are pretty, you have to layer them on a bit to get the color you see in the pan.
Pros:
• VERY affordable
• Smooth texture
• Huge range of colors
• Cute, practical packaging
Cons:
• Level of pigmentation is medium
• Some fading by mid day, even with primer

@lipglossandspandex, I already DID! I’ve been using their eye shadows for ages, and they are dupes for high-end products. These palettes are perfectly put together, and every shade is totally wearable. I am fascinated by the black with micro gold glitter in “Sunsets with Sophia.” I know from experience that they are highly pigmented, apply and blend effortlessly, and wear a long time. Great piece! Wish you would have modeled some; I love color on your eyes!
During the move, I couldn’t find my camera charger, so unfortunately, no pictures!
I had to go back and make sure you really wrote FORTY FOUR, @lipglossandspandex ! That’s a whole lotta shadows to peruse, and I can’t wait to check out the new selections. Ciao Bella
is a favorite right off the bat. And that bow is adorable!
Here, I thought they WERE expensive! The brand was unfamiliar to me, the packaging is sweet, and the colors in the Love in Paris, Je Ne Sais Quoi palette are rich with a side of funky! For the price I would say you get a lot of bang for you buck. I give it 3 stars, and would most likely purchase it again.
Ciao Bella, wow that’s a beautiful color palette that I will be hunting down. Always nice to see a good amount of pigments in an affordable brand too…impressive.
I’m a huge NYX fan and these look pretty cute! I love Moonlight Skinny Dip and the peachy shade in Caio Bella
“Perfect for everyday wear” is right- Love in Rio in Moonlight Skinny Dip (heh, what a great name!) is perfect. It’s easy to over look, not much to look at in the pan, but when applied it’s magic! The dark brown shade is very build-able, so it’s easy to get a light wash for a subtle smokey eye.
Moonlight Skinny Dip wouldn’t be a great trio for folks with medium to dark skin, the toffee and white shades are too light. I let a friend with mid-toned skin use it and the lighter colors looked chalky on her. But pale skinned girls, this one is for you!
@lipglossandspandex – Great Review. These pallets really draw me in. I am not a very good mix and matcher. I like all the colors to be in one pallet. All of these color combinations are saying “come hither”. Je Ne Sais Quoi and Life is a Cha Cha, I am thinking about you . . .
I generally love NYX–I’ve used several of their eyeshadow singles and trios. And I like the *concept* of these “Love” palettes (variety, price point, packaging, color combinations), however, I’m REALLY bummed about the pigmentation and length of wear. I tried Life is a Cha Cha (purple trio) and Love in Paris (blue-ish 9-pan palette). The colors were a bit sheer and not great to blend. No, they’re not BAD, but I just expect more from NYX. Stef’s swatches look great, but I just couldn’t get the colors to look that bold on my eyelid, even when I tried different primers. I’m giving these only three stars.
Oops, I forgot to mention I also tried the Sunsets with Sophia 5pan! I felt like the shades were too sheer.
