Stay Cool On The Go And In The Office

It is the height of summer and holy smokes is it hot! Whether you are an obsessive purse packer and un-packer like me, or your bag is a bottomless pit – there are a few key pieces you’ll want to pack on a daily basis to help keep your cool when the heat is on.

If your bag could use some refreshing (or a complete dump and purge) here are 7 Office Purse Must Haves to keep you refreshed and stylish while on the go during any heat wave.

Summer-Purse-essentials blot papers facial spray

1. Blot Papers – No beauty products is as fast, easy and effective at whisking away oil and shine than blot papers. Even better, they’re inexpensive and found at any drugstore. Keep a pack in your purse to mattify your skin without disturbing your makeup.

2. Facial Spray – If it is hydration you need, make sure to keep a facial mist (we’re partial to Evian) in your office purse. A few quick spritzes can help cool you down, moisturize skin and even refresh your makeup.

Tip: Keep it in the office fridge for an extra burst of cool.

Summer-Purse-essentials cool drink crunchy snacks

3. Bottled Starbucks® Iced Coffee – Speaking of the office fridge, it’s imperative to keep a cold and caffeinated, mid-day slump curing drink inside of it. I’ve been drinking a Bottled Starbucks® Iced Coffee in their Coffee + Milk (Low Calorie) flavor almost every afternoon during our latest heat wave for a quick pick me up. It has a touch of sweetness, and a subtle and smooth coffee flavor I enjoy – plus it helps revive me so I can face the rest of the day.

4. Crunchy Snacks – For some reason, I crave crunchy snacks during the summer months. Am I the only one? Anyway…a healthy snack will help keep your body and brain operating at peak performance when the heat of the day is dragging you down. Just don’t over do it! A handful of almonds and some apple chips are my top picks.

Summer-Purse-essential hair accessories

5. Hair Accessories – Nothing is more distracting when I am bent over the computer than hair getting in my eyes or tickling my neck. Add in a warm office and it can be maddening. Make sure to keep a few hair accessories tucked into your office purse to hold back your hair at any time.

Summer-Purse-essentials lip stain folding fan

6. Lip Stain – You always need some lip color in you bag, and during the summer months I make sure there is a lip stain or two included with my balms and glosses. A good lip stain can last through the heat and you’ll be sure to have a pop of color on your lips – which is great for counter balancing overly flushed checks.

7. Folding Fan – Seriously! A cute folding fan takes up hardly any room in a standard size purse, adds a fun bit of retro femininity to your style AND surprisingly can really come in handy during the dog days of summer. Use it to keep (and look) cool in a warm office or just catch the attention of the cute delivery guy.

  1. I love posts like this! I get a Starbucks iced Americano pretty much every day–so refreshing. In my bag I always have blotting papers, pressed powder, and roll on bottles of essential oil blends to freshen up–my current fave is vanilla-chamomile. And I really need to pick up a fan: so cute!

    1. @Amity where do you get your Vanilla Chamomile -Perfume Oil Roll On? Vanilla and Chamomile are my 2 favorite scents..

      Love this site!

  2. I really try to stay hydrated, especially with the summer heat! My tip to stay cool is to freeze grapes and have them as a cool me off treat.. they are yummy, healthy and really cool me down fast!
Love the fan in the purse! It made me chuckle.. cause I am reminded of all the old church ladies that had them- they could be down right dangerous to sit near by without getting hit!

    1. I have not thought about the “old church ladies” in years. As a kid whose mind often wondered in church, I always wondered if those fan cooled you off. My Mom of course told us that we would be cooler if we just sat there, kept our hands to ourselves and minded our own business.

  3. Blot paper is my best friend in the summer and those Starbucks iced coffees are getting added to my grocery list as we speak! Natural bug spray for my many trips to the playground with the kiddos is also a necessity!

  4. I’m always toting blot papers, pressed powder, and a hair tie or two. My friend just gave me an adorable folding fan from Spain and I didn’t think of carrying it in my purse and actually using it! What a great idea!

  5. This list is SPOT ON. I have nearly all of these in my purse, except for the Evian mist and the Starbucks iced coffee. I’d always giggled at the girls who had the mist in their handbags, but as the temperatures are climbing (and climbing…and climbing) I see it as closer to necessity than a luxury.
And, alas, I’m lactose intolerant so no yummy iced coffee for me. I drown my woes in Starbucks Refreshers instead! (But seriously. I miss the convenience of the bottled coffee. Make a soy version, please Starbucks!)

I have an accidental essential that helps with summer heat; baby wipes! I carry them because of my kid, but they are great for wiping down when you get way too sweaty but can’t run home to change just yet. When my hair was longer, I really liked to use then on the back of my neck, which would get sticky from the combo of perspiration and hair product.

  6. I always keep blotting papers to banish oil, tissues to mop up sweat or in case any public restrooms are out of t.p., hair ties to put my hair up, a water bottle in case I get thirsty, and a lip/cheek tint in my purse. Always.
