Discover the joy of eyeliner with this drugstore gem!

I personally feel that eyeliner is vastly underappreciated. For a number of reason, eyeliner isn’t a “must” for many women – they just don’t consider it essential. Others stick to the standard black and brown pencil varieties, and many find it hard to apply. Sadly, eyeliner generally takes the backseat to its more colorful makeup siblings.

But ladies, eyeliner is fantastic! Changing your eyeliner is a great way to change your look without buying tons of products. It comes in every color of the rainbow, in many different formulas, and it can be just as fun as lip gloss and eye shadow. Even more when you find that perfect color that makes your gorgeous eyes stand out. And having fun with eyeliner doesn’t have to mean shelling out a lot of cash.

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Gel CreamLiner ($11) makes it all simple. Plus they’re fun and easy to use! Each CreamLiner set contains a trio of colors designed to work with your eye color: brown, blue, green, or hazel. Pick your eye shade for goof-proof color or go with the trio that most calls your name! Each set has a “natural” shade, a “playful” shade, and a “dramatic” shade.

And don’t worry, all of you pencil-lovin’ gals! Gel and cream liners aren’t hard to apply when you have the right tools. That’s why Physicians Formula has included a good quality brush, making it super simple to apply the liner. The packaging is great as well—it’s very sturdy, and I love that the individual colors can be stacked or separated at your convenience.

I purchased the CreamLiner Trio for Brown Eyes, which comes with three hues (right to left, above) , black with purple microglitter, violet with purple micro glitter and matte deep brown.

The purple is the least pigmented of the three in the Brown eye trio, but the color can be built up easily. The brown and black shades are rich and vibrant. The staying power of all three is incredible. CreamLiners are both waterproof and smudge-proof – in fact, they can be a little difficult for me to remove! But they never irritate my eyes or contact lenses at all.

There are other nice drugstore cream and gel liners out there, but not with the variety of colors that Physician’s Formula has. And I would even say that the quality these CreamLiners rivals that of some high end eyeliners. Plus, these gel liners, like all of Physicians Formula’s products, are fragrance-free, PABA-free, and free of any of the 132 known skin irritants. All in all, Physicians Formula CreamLiners are a real steal and I highly recommend them.

  1. Good Lord. I made my weekly CVS makeup run (What? I read Nouveau Cheap and then use the coupon tips to score some seriously discounted makeup. Doesn’t everybody?) and I almost bought this.
Now I really wish I had because that purple is gorgeous. And black with micro-glitter?? I need this in my life. Thanks for the review, @lipglossandspandex!

  2. Marilyn your slightly winged liner is gorgeous! I looooove cream liner, and it really does have awesome staying power. I keep hearing great things about these specific palettes and that black with purple micro glitter is calling my name. Knowing me, I’ll own all the kits, who cares about matching my eye color!

  3. Great review, @lipglossandspandex!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these liners. I honestly can’t say enough good things about them. I have the trio for green eyes and I’ve been using it for about a year now and I’m not even *close* to running low on any of the colors, so these are seriously the bargain of the century. I’m always shocked by the incredible staying power and how creamy these are. They literally glide across the skin, yet they stay in place on my super oily skin all day.

Seriously, if you’re a gel liner gal, you’re really missing out if you don’t try these!

Oh and have you ladies seen the new collection? It’s called “Glam” and the colors are all metallics! They are gorgeous. Just waiting for them to go on sale and then they WILL be mine. Hopefully they’ll perform just as well as the originals!

  4. @Stef, @dwj1 and @lyssachelle, isn’t that black just FABULOUS?! And @kellie76, RUN, don’t walk, to your nearest drugstore! :P These are totally awesome.

@Holly, thank you for the compliment! :) And these are great for enhancing your eye color–but don’t be afraid to branch out and try a different trio. I’ve purchased the Blue Eyes one and it’s great too.

Thanks @irene! These are definitely worth picking up, in at least one color trio.

@lucylemonade, in my opinion, these are just as good as higher end gel/cream liners in terms of quality. If you’re new to gel/cream eyeliner, I especially recommend the Physicians Formula trios because it has three colors AND a great brush for the price of one high end liner. (Of course, being the makeup junkie that I am, I want to own them ALL, high end and drugstore!!!)

@turboterp, I think it’s Sellout, Mushroom and YDK (from Urban Decay’s Book of Shadows II) possibly mixed with some of the shadows from CARGO’s Essential palettes.

Thank you, @kirstengail! I’m putting more colors on my shopping list.

@nouveaucheap, I agree with you there! There is SO MUCH PRODUCT, and I haven’t had ANY problems with it getting dry. They’re such a bargain, I’m worried that PF will realize what a gold mine they have and raise the prices! (Which means I better run to the store and stock up, right? haha) I’ve been eyeing the Glam collection too and also waiting for a sale ;)

  5. Oh my gosh, I was just thinking about these and wondering what the quality was like! Now I’ll have to go back when I have money and buy myself one!

I don’t wear them often (um, yea, no time, particularly on school days. Pass me the pencil!), but I should to keep practicing to those hard-to-make-even cat eye lines!

  6. Well a rave review from @lipglossandspandex and @nouveaucheap seals the deal. I am totally picking a trio of these eyeliners up on my next drugstore run.

I agree with you, @lipglossandspandex eyeliner is underappreciated, and it’s also one of my faves. I tend to stay away from most drugstore brands – I have sensitive eyes and wear contacts – so I need a formula that will stay put (and doesn’t irritate). Love that I get 3 colors for the price of (not even) one at the department store counters. Now I just need to pick the best colors…
