Some Sparkle for Your Inner Tinker Bell
I have a little fairy in my house that loves to sprinkle fairy dust all around, casting magical spells. So when mommy got some fairy dust of her very own, in the form of the Pixi Fairy Dust Favorites Light Catchers collection, it made this little fairy very happy.
Pixi by Petra was a brand I wasn’t very familiar with but quickly learned it was started by Petra Strand, who has more than 20 years of experience as a makeup artist and product developer. Founded over a decade ago, the British line infuses their products with botanicals and beneficial ingredients.
Petra makes a variety of products, including makeup and skincare, and I had the pleasure of testing their Pixi Fairy Dust Favorites ($12), a collection of five of their best-selling loose powders, that can be used on eyes, cheeks and lips.
What’s really cool about this collection, is not only are you getting all of the customer favorites in this set, but they are all screwed together in one unit so that you won’t lose tract of them. Really cool packaging. I love this concept because they travel well and don’t get buried in the bottom of my makeup bag.
The Fairy Dust Favorites contains five multi-use loose powders:
Snow Sparkle – glimmery white
Gold Dust – candlelit gold nude shimmer
Brightening Bare – medium nude sheen
Mocha Magic – warm tan shimmer
Copper Sheen – rich metallic copper
I love how versatile all five of the colors are too. I focused mainly on using them on my eyes. And I tried the two lighter shades on my cheek bones, as a highlighter, which worked well. You can wear them on your lips as well, though I found them a little too shimmery for my taste. I’ve never been particularly good at applying loose pigment to my lips however, so if you’ve mastered this art you might really like these color options.
Snow Sparkle, Gold Dust, Brightening Bare, Mocha Magic and Copper Sheen
My favorite of the bunch is Brightening Bare which is a beautiful nude sheen that goes with everything. A close second was Mocha Magic which is also a really pretty warm tan.
Pigment concentration is decent in these and while they didn’t have the staying power that some shadows do, they did last a good amount of time throughout the day. I liked that they were a little more subtle, which made them a great daytime option. You can also layer these powders to create more dimension…Gold Dust and Brightening Bare look amazing layered!
If you want to check out some Petra Products, Target carries them and you’ll be happy to know that they are very reasonably priced. (This little set is only $12 for all five which made them even more appealing to me.) I was really happy with my first experience with Petra and I’m ready to try more!

Very pretty! Sad to hear about the staying power though.
I really liked this little set, and though I wish it had a little more staying power, they work great for a casual daytime option!
These look really pretty–I’m not good at doing the loose-pigment-thing-on-lipstick either, but I wonder if just a dab of the white or gold would look nice on the center of the lower lip, for extra pout. Also, I need to recommend the Pixi Glow Mist spray (also at Target)–you can use it as a refresher or to set your makeup, it has a ton of oils and propolis in it, and it makes your skin soft and glowy.
Those colors looks so pretty. Pixi is a cool brand and you really did a great review. I’ve seen these in the store but didn’t purchase them because, well I was afraid. Not anymore!!! I guess this gives me another reason to go to target
These are a great value, 12 bucks for 5 is great. I do wish they were a bit more pigmented though. I find loose pigments are a pain to use, so i want maximum pay off if I’m going to use them.
@amity – I’ve been wanting to try the Glow Mist spray. Thanks for the heads up!
The pigmentation looks sorely lacking. That coupled with the lack of staying power makes this a pass for me. I have yet to find a Pixi product that was decent.
