Angry skin. I’ve got it. Many of us have it. The pros tend to call it “rosacea,” but I just call it “angry skin”. My skin can get angry at extreme cold or extreme heat. It can get angry at my third cup of coffee or my first glass of red wine. It gets slightly upset at habaneros, and mad at many a face wash.
This general sensitivity is usually combated with good sense and good cosmetics. The first often escapes me, but I found REN goes a long way in helping me with the second.
I first became enamored with REN after trying their Perfect Canvas Skin Finishing Serum. A non-silicone primer, not only did this not irritate my angry skin, it calmed it. Perfect Canvas wasn’t billed as a redness-reducing, skin-calming product, but after using it and finding smoother skin without its usual redness, I became a devotee.
So, when REN introduced its Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm ($48/30ml) that was particularly formulated to combat sensitivity and inflammation, you can bet I was eager to try it.
REN skincare is committed to choosing ingredients that benefit the health of the skin without toxins, harsh chemicals or irritants, resulting in clean, safe skincare. Every one of their products is made with this promise. This “clean” commitment carries over to the planet, offering 100% recyclable packaging and bottles made with reclaimed ocean plastic. Clean for me, clean for the planet. Bonus.
So how does this particular balm work? In a word, “Well.”
REN’s Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm is a thick, gelatinous balm that melts quickly and easily with the heat of your fingertips. It almost has a vaseline-like consistency. Upon melting, the consistency is that of an oil, easily drunk by the skin, replenishing the skin’s lipid barrier. In spite of the oil-like texture, skin is not oily after application. There is no greasy, heaviness. Waking up, there is no trace of the balm on my sheets, and my skin feels moisturized and appears even-toned from the very first application. Yes, the VERY FIRST application!
I use this about two or three times a week. I was worried that using the balm every day may clog my pores, but the enzymatically activated almond, borage, linseed and olive oils haven’t appeared to do that. There are also bioactive beta-glucans that act as an anti-inflammatory to ease irritation and prevent flare-ups. I can’t say that my flare-ups are completely resolved, but they do seem to occur less frequently since I’ve been using the balm. Bam! Results.
REN is anger management for your skin. we heartsters, does your skin explode with anger? How do you manage it?
This post could not have had better timing. I used it for the first time last night and was so scared about the thickness/residue until I read your post. You were 100% right on all counts. I love it and am so glad I have this balm for winter (I’m so so sick of angry skin).
