I am beyond thrilled to review what I think is truly a groundbreaking product designed to fight the most underground of pimples – cystic acne. Renée Rouleau’s Anti-Cyst Treatment is the first topical product I have ever used that had a visual and healing effect on my cystic acne.

I’ve suffered from this condition for years (you can read all about it here), and have tried every topical treatment known to man in a never-ending quest to tame cystic pimples. Sadly, every single product only irritated and inflamed my already distressed skin, leaving the cyst red, raw and sore on the surface, yet never getting really into the pimple way beneath the surface of my skin. So, I was skeptical when I first saw the words “Anti Cyst” on the bottle. However, I was already familiar with world-renowned skincare expert and esthetician, Renée Rouleau and her effective line of products, so I crossed my fingers that this bottle held the answers. It’s fairly unassuming in size and looks – a simple, clear glass, pump bottle filled with a watery, clear gel. Don’t be fooled by looks, however – Renée Rouleau products are designed with simple packaging in mind, to ensure customers spend their money on the product, not fancy packaging.

And it’s what this treatment can do that’s really amazing! This unique gel is made exclusively for cystic acne sufferers. The “non-drying gel is specifically formulated for hard, sore underground cystic blemishes by dissolving and digesting the bacteria and infection deep within the skin for a quick recovery.” The instructions advised to apply one drop, twice a day on the cystic pimple. For the first time in my life, I looked forward to getting a cystic pimple (well, I wasn’t complexly dreading it, at least).

The time soon came and I awoke to a nice pea sized pimple. I dabbed a bit of the scentless gel and waited for the sting. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel any burning or itching upon application. The gel quickly absorbed into my skin and I followed with my SPF (always) and got ready for work. As I went about my day, I noticed that for once I was not noticing my cystic pimple. There wasn’t the usual throbbing pain and swollen feeling I had grown to expect when sprouting a new cystic spot. I resisted the urge to check in a mirror every five minutes, but a quick glance after lunch showed (surprise!) there was no visible increase in size or redness (normally my cystic pimples have a good week of growing and growing before reaching their peak). As a matter of fact, by the second and third doses, I was seeing a decrease in the size of the cyst! Continued use of the Anti Cyst Treatment, helped me to cut this pimple off at the beginning! This cyst never grew to its potential size and now has almost completely disappeared. I have a small bump left where it started, but I’m hoping that will soon be gone as well.

What’s the secret of this miracle for those with cystic acne? According to the incredibly informative Renée Rouleau site, there are three key ingredients that make this gel so effective:

Ethyl Lactate which helps decreases bacteria and reduces inflammation.
Lactic Acid which aids in dissolving cells that block the pore and purifies within the pore, as well.
Carboxymethyl Cellulose, (and this is the biggie) which acts as a delivery system to carry action ingredients deep within the skin where cysts are present.

All of the items in the Renée Rouleau line blend the best of science and nature. Besides using the latest scientific breakthroughs to combat skin problems, every product contains cold-pressed, herbal plant extracts & essential oils. All products are free of mineral oil, petrolatum, SD Alcohol 40, denatured alcohol, sodium and ammonium and synthetic dyes and fragrances. Oh and, of course, all ingredients are cruelty-free (tested on humans not animals).

As if this is not already one fabulous find, there is a second use for the gel as well. It can be used twice a week as a preventative treatment for problem areas. I have been applying this to small patches on my face and neck that have continually been locations for cystic acne. Sadly, these areas show the marks of old pimples and inflammations. After a month of applications, not only has the gel prevented any new eruptions, I have seen an improvement in the texture and discoloration of the skin in those areas.

If you are a fellow cystic acne sufferer, I also highly recommend that you check out this wonder gel (under $40 a bottle) and see if Renée Rouleau’s Anti-Cyst Treatment is the answer to your prayers.

  1. well, I think from my glowing review you all know I’m giving this miracle product 5 stars! It made a drastic difference in the size and duration of my cystic pimples. Other benefits include that there is no smell at all and it is a clear gel – no one need to see/smell that you have the product on. Plus, once it dries (only takes a few minutes) you can cover the spot with makeup and go about your day. Again, everyone is different )and with these hormonal cysts I think everyone has different responses to possible treatments) but if you can catch the cyst in its early stage and start applications, I think the Renee Rouleau Anti Cyst treatment could be the answer! For only $40 it’s worth a shot – I’ve already spent hundreds (make that thousands) trying to tame mine so I was estatic to see how resonable this product was priced. Good luck!

Before reviewing this product, I should provide a little bit of background on my personal skin woes. I am 25 years old, and I have had persistent acne breakouts since I was 11. I’ve tried every acne product, treatment, and prescription (including 3 rounds of Accutane…the granddaddy of all acne prescription treatments), they have available to mankind. Combating acne is a constant factor I have had to consider in choosing my daily skin care regimen.
I tested Renée Rouleau’s Anti-Cyst Treatment, an acne treatment that “encourages quick recovery” and describes the product as follows: “This miraculous gel spot treatment works to encourage healing of hard, sore, cystic blemishes that develop deep within the skin.” Having read that description, I was encouraged, because it’s a product that is intended to treat those deep, painful cystic blemishes that, in my experience, are the most difficult type of blemish to get rid of. For me, I really can’t do anything about them except slather on some zit cream, wait until it “pops up” and then take care of business. Unfortunately, it can take over a week for that to happen, and even then, the blemish doesn’t always clear up completely. These types of blemishes are not only a visual nuisance, but they’re painful too! They are the worst!
Having tested this product, I must say that I couldn’t agree more with the manufacturer’s description of the product. It has defiantly “encouraged a quick recovery”. Immediately after using this product, I noticed an improvement. One small pump of the product was enough to treat all of the problem spots on my face. I’ve been using it twice a day, as directed and it hasn’t been over-drying to my face, which can be the case with some acne treatments. I apply the product first, wait about a minute of so for it to be absorbed, and then apply my moisturizer or night cream. The product does an amazing job of expediting that “pop-up” process, which is necessary if you want to get rid of the blemish. The product also does a great job of healing the blemish afterwards. I will say that a couple weeks into using this, I had a massive breakout and accused my sissy (Krista) of sending me flesh-eating bacteria in a pump, but she told me to stick with it and I did and things are starting to clear up on a deeper level, so I guess things had to get worse before they got better. I’m now down to only a couple of blemishes, which is really good for me. I must say, if this product is working for me, than will work for everyone. This product does in fact kick serious acne butt, and it has permanently become a part of my acne arsenal.

  3. do you know if there are any promo codes for new customers?

  4. Not sure how I missed this post? I must try this stuff. I get hormonal acne once a month. Not fun when you are 36! They are always the big painful ones and take forever to clear. I would love a miracle product to battle these babies. With such glowing reviews I’m definitely going to give this product a try.

  5. Is this sold in stores or just an online only thing??

  6. Where do I buy this product! I have tried everything for 8 years! I’m desperate!

  7. I bought this product hoping it would provide some relief from my cystic acne, which has plagued my chin for over 25 years. I’m in my early 50’s, post menopausal, and thought with time surely this will go away. Nothing I’ve tried, except for a time with Accutane over 20 years ago, has worked. My chin itches constantly, and is never without cysts. Underneath, I have a slightly square chin with the hint of a cleft, but you would never know as the cysts misshape it. I tried the product as directed, including on a few that had been scratched and scarred over. Miracle!!! I had one large cyst developing right before my eyes, and dabbed the spot probably more than necessary (maybe every 4 hours) and it completely disappeared. The scabby ones are healing and the skin is not inflamed. I love this product, it saved my skin. My dermatologist will be crossed off my list now that I have this in my arsenal. Thank you!!! If you know anyone who suffers, try it. I’ve been using it constantly and the small bottle lasts. Even if II used an entire bottle a month, it would be about $1 per day, cheap cost for a happy chin! The antibiotics never worked as well, and I love that I will not be taking them any longer.

    1. @Marcia – I am so glad you tried the Anti-Cyst Treatment and that it worked for you! Like you, I tried every product on the market without relief and was amazed to finally find just one that actually helped to reduce the size and severity of cystic acne. During my years I’ve found that not every treatment works for every person, but this bottle is one that I always recommend to fellow cystic acne sufferers – its track record is just that impressive.

My other big tip? Ice. A couple of minutes of applying ice to a cystic pimple really helps with the swelling and pain. And it’s free!

  8. Thanks for this story. I have been looking for something to use and try. At first, I didn’t know what this pimple was. I knew it would get smaller in size, but it would remain sore in one spot. Of course the usual, doing everything to try and get it to go down and go away, I would then I would start up trying to get rid of the soreness and again repeat over and over again. Anyways, I’ve tried many things, it is still here, but had some breakthrough from last evening.

I have many products but not sure I think the combo of Renee Rouleau, Mario Badescu Acne Toner, Clean and Clear advantage popped pimple relief drying paste, and honey, along with the pass few days of boiled water (mircowaved) and hot tap water, it has gone down… using renee and popped drying paste overnight really helped.

    1. Another thing to add, I have also been taking vitamins: B complex, multi-vitamin and omega..note renee is good it is lighter, but the murad gel is quite similar too, but it is a little thicker, but close

  9. I have been dealing with the same cystic pimple for a few months now. I had popped it with a needle (now I know that was not the right thing to do) in May and it went “dormant” all summer. It came back in the same exact place and hurt 10x worse this time. I literally could feel it throbbing. I started just washing my face religiously and trying every spot treatment I had, but nothing worked. So then I started using the hot water trick, and that did work to swell it down and I could start to see where a head was appearing. I purchased the anti-cyst treatment and just received it today. I am hoping it will kill this thing for good. But, I do have a question about this product, will it bring the cyst to a head or will it just get rid of the spot all together?

Along with my aging skin, I’ve been battling some nasty cystic acne for way too many years. I’ve also been using Citrus Clear like you mentioned – I’ve been using this daily for the last 2 weeks and all’s good! No breakouts and no dry skin. The Citrus Clear cleanser doesn’t irritate my skin. It doesn’t foam as much as I hoped it would but that’s not a deal breaker.
