A Green Monday beauty review…

Collective Wellbeing collectionphoto: Mandabear for we heart this

Since the cold weather has been messing around with my temperamental skin, I could not be more grateful for Collective Wellbeing coming to the rescue. It’s quite easy for us at we heart this to already love Collective Wellbeing for generously donating to the Raffle for the Rescues. Now for this edition of Green Monday, the review team got to give their effective and affordable skincare products a try. A green dream come true? I think yes!

Collective Wellbeing, formed in 2004 by Jack and Ellen Davies, is a socially responsible, all natural product line whose goal is to enhance wellbeing while improving the world we live in. The environmental goals they have achieved are truly outstanding and consistent. The entire line is paraben-free, the ingredients are natural yet effective and at least 1% of their annual revenues are pledged to environmental non-profits. Not to mention, zero carbon footprint! That kind of puts my carbon footprint to shame.

Time for some packaging love! The review team received travel sized products and even these little guys were packed with tons of information right on the bottles: what type of skin it’s best for, the product’s mission, its ingredients and directions on how to use it. Beneficial for even the most curious houseguests!

So, what did we get to try out? Let’s take a look…

Collective wellbeing Night Balm photo: we heart this

Night Balm ($27) – While you snooze, this shea butter based moisturizer has skin softening properties and antioxidants for protection. Dry, rough skin is hydrated and fine lines are lessened with the help of natural phyto-compounds. The soothing scent of lavender makes this the ultimate nighttime moisturizer.

Corrective Cleanser ($15) – Targeted for sensitive and oily/combo skin, this product is a dream. Its main ingredient is humble oat and you can tell right away because there are oat bits in the cleanser – but they are not harsh on the skin at all. Organic raspberry extract helps to exfoliate dead skin cells. It’s non-drying but also reduces excess oil, making it an all around gentle cleanser for fussy skin.

Honey Buff ($15) – This is love right here. A gentle love, I might add. If you have oily/combination skin and shy away from exfoliating products due to roughness, this is for you! Thanks to rose hips seed powder combined with a certified organic honey base, it’s a combination that is so light and soothing you will barely feel like you are actually removing dead layers of skin.

Weightless Day Cream ($21) – They aren’t kidding about it being lightweight. Can a product so light deliver hydration? Why, yes it can. This daily moisturizer contains botanicals such as chamomile, aloe vera, ceramides, and pomegranate seed oil for soothing the skin while fighting free radicals to prevent signs of aging!

  1. I am really liking the Collective Wellbeing products! I tried all four products and can honestly say they all impressed me. The Corrective Cleanser is so gentle and I felt like it got my face very clean without feeling stripped or dry. It also smells very refreshing! The Honey Buff is one of my favorites. It’s such a mild exfoliator, almost soothing, and worked well to remove dead skin layers. The Night Balm was my other favorite, it has a nice calming scent of lavender and feels like silk when you apply it. It kept my dry, winter damaged skin, soft and supple, I found myself reaching for it more than once throughout the day. The day cream was very lightweight and is a gentle, mild moisturizer that I think is particularly nice for sensitive skin.

All in all, I was really happy with Collective Wellbeing Products and ended up buying the large sizes, since I went through the samples so quickly! I was pleasantly surprised by their price too…not completely overwhelming, as with some facial products. On a side note, I also ordered the body wash, and it’s quickly becoming another favorite! Solid four stars for me on this line!

  2. Collective Wellbeing is definitely one of those brands to watch out for in the eco friendly beauty realm. I felt that all of these products were extremely gentle and I didn’t feel overly cautious when trying them out like how I usually do at times. If I could choose one thing for them to work on would be the scent of the products. Overall, they were pleasant but I think for some products they could have picked scents that were perhaps slightly lighter? My nose is fussy sometimes :) The products do deliver though – 4 stars from me!

  3. Ooo! Ooo! Five stars from me!

I’m a HUGE fan of Collective Wellbeing now, and I’ve already placed my order for more products. I got to try all four also, and fell in love with all of them.

My favorite is the Night Balm; I thought it’d be too thick for my oily skin but it smoothed on and soaked right in! And I didn’t wake up with an oil slick on my face, so I knew then it was a keeper. It’s scent also won me over, I’m not a lavender fan, but this scent is fairly light and soothing.

I was prepared to hate the Corrective Cleanser, but I was wrong. I really thought it wouldn’t be able to clean my skin well, but it did and left me feeling nice and soft. I had just enough tightness in my skin to know it was clean, but still so hydrated that it felt like I’d already used moisturizer! (This might be a bit of a testament to me using harsher cleansers that strip my skin. Bad, Alyssa, bad!)

I like to use the Honey Buff in the morning as a way to scrub me awake. It’s a good, gentle exfoliator AND no tiny hurt-y beads to get in your eyes and scratch them. (*ahem* I’m looking at YOU, Noxzema….)

The Daycream also needs some love, it’s just a great, non-greasy cream.

I’m a massive Collective Wellbeing fan now. They have travel sizes that are the perfect size for a trial, so go check them out!!

  4. Thanks for this introduction to a brand I knew absolutely nothing about, @mandabear You and the other testers have grabbed my attention! The Night Balm especially is now on my must-try list. Great post!

  5. These all sound amazing.. I never heard of Collective Wellbeing… You can bet I’ll check them out for sure after seeing this great post!

  6. I did not test these four products, but I did get to try two others in my raffle bag, the Calendula/Horsetail Volume Building Shampoo and the Tea Tree/Rosemary VB Conditioner. These both smell wonderful – especially the conditioner – very light and fresh. They are very light acting, too – I suppose that goes with the volume building – but I do need a little more suds and moisture in my hair care. So, I love the smell – I’d just like to try these in the more conditioning variety!

  7. The night balm sounds like something I would love. Thanks for introducing me to a new product line. Now off to check out their site!

  8. I’ve never tried these products, but your review has me very interested @Mandabear !

A quick check of the website and I’m even more interested. Why? Because this wonderful company will tell you in plain English whether or not there is gluten or gluten derived ingredients in the products! I’m so happy I could cry! As a person with celiac disease it can be so hard trying to call companies, spending long periods of time on hold while some poor call center worker who has no idea what you’re talking about tries to answer your questions. I love it when a company takes a proactive approach!
Thank you Collective Wellbeing, from the bottom of my gluten free heart, thank you!!

  9. @mandaleem – That is amazing to hear! Not everyone can wear every product and sometimes we are left wondering what ingredient messed everything up. When a company goes above and beyond making sure the nitty gritty details are out there + up front, it makes them that more respectable.

  10. I haven’t tried any of these products but I did try the ones in our Race for the Rescues gift bags. I do love Collective Well Being’s packaging as well–it oozes calm and purity–but I don’t much care for their products that I’ve tried. For some reason the facial cleanser I tried (Rosemary Sage) smells great and has a great, creamy texture when applying for cleansing, but doesn’t seem to rinse well. Afterwards, my face feels like a rubber mask. I don’t know how else to describe it. I’ve also tried a shampoo & conditioner (same as @Melinda ) and also felt there was a soapy film on my hair. Very odd. Also, my fine hair remained tangled and difficult to pass a comb through–not what I usually expect after conditioning. I really wonder if I’m the only one to experience this apparent anomoly and what exactly it is.
