A product so good, it’s going in the Skincare Hall of Fame…

I’m one of those people who even when my skin appears clear, I still have blemishes and blackheads. I’ve never had poreless skin that a baby would envy. And I accepted that it wasn’t in the cards to have a flawless complexion. That’s what makeup is for, amirite? I’ve tried everything–3-step systems, sonic brushes, acids and peels, you name it–and I’ve had moderate degrees of success with them. My skin had reached a point where it was as good as it’s ever been.

And then I tried Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion ($58 for 2 oz).

Have you ever used a product where you’re like, “This is too gentle to work. This isn’t doing anything, is it”? That was my first reaction to using this gentle scrub. The scrubbing sensation in this product is from micro-size aluminum oxide crystals (one of the exfoliators used in more expensive microdermabrasion treatments). And these crystals are SO micro that they don’t feel like they’re doing much. I’m a girl who has used scrubs with ground up shards of nuts! This is like butterfly kisses compared to that.

Another pore-clearing ingredient in this scrub is salicylic acid, which dissolves pore-clogging debris. Rounding out the MVP ingredients is caviar lime extract, which improves exfoliation and promotes a smoother, brighter and more even complexion and lentil seed extract, which strengthens and tightens pore walls, making pores appear smaller.

This pale, milky paste is housed in a blue tube, the 2 oz. size making it perfect for a travel toiletry kit. There is no discernible fragrance, so those of you sensitive to fragrance will love this.

As per the instructions, I use about a dime-sized amount of product, rub it into my face, and let it sit for 1-2 minutes before rinsing. I pat my face dry and then I apply my night cream (I only use peels or exfoliators at night due to my sensitive skin. I don’t like applying makeup over freshly peeled/exfoliated skin because I’m convinced it will clog my newly cleaned pores.). The immediate effect of using this is glowing skin. After one use, I was pleased, but I was in no way a convert. This gentle, yet high-powered scrub instructs to use this 1-2 times a week, allowing 3 days between uses.

But then…about 2 weeks in (having only used this 4 times) I noticed something while I was tweezing my eyebrows: my blackheads were gone. Not just so small as to be unnoticeable, but GONE. I usually have blackheads on my nose and on my chin, always have. Products I use minimize their appearance, but they’re always there. I couldn’t believe that after 2 weeks, my nose was clear and they were almost gone from my chin.

After 3 weeks, I maybe had a handful on my face and they were much less noticeable. I also have 3-4 old acne scars that appear as larger pores on my cheeks and that also tend to shelter blackheads–those are cleared out completely and the pore size is greatly reduced. Not quite porcelain smooth, but pretty darn close! I’ve been able to go out, in public, without makeup!

For it’s blackhead banishing abilities; we’re putting Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion in the we heart this Skincare Hall of Fame!

we heartsters, have you used this? Tell me if you love it as much as I do!

  1. I’m sooo glad I read your review! My SIL gave this to me recently. I haven’t used it yet because I stay away from physical exfoliants for fear of doing damage to my skin. So many scrubs can be far too aggressive. Thanks for your great review. Off to exfoliate Dr. Brandt -style.

    1. That’s a great SIL! You’re gonna love this! Just remember: this is a very effective scrub! Don’t overdo it and make sure to give your skin a few days between uses :) Happy scrubbing!
