A foundation even a foundation-hater loves!

Stila Stay All Day Foundation and Concealerphotos: we heart this

I’ve got not one but TWO confessions for you today…

True Confession One: I’m having a love affair with Stila. Other brands may not be happy about it (I think I heard a drugstore lipstick crying in the corner of my vanity) but it’s true.

Stila was the first high end brand I ever embraced. And embrace it I did! Collecting shadow pans and lipsticks named after Jeanine Lobell’s friends like it was going out of style. (In fact, the person who turned me on to the brand WAS one of Jeanine Lobell’s friends with a lipstick named after her – Kris!) But as new brands popped up and new ownership took over, I kind of lost my love over time.

But their Liquid Lipsticks breathed new life into my once found love/obsession. And now with their Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer ($44) I’ve got a full-fledged fling going on yet again. (I tested shade #3, light.)

True confession two: I don’t really like foundation! But not without reason; I always have a hard time finding a finish I like, it always seems to pool up in my oily pores, it often causes breakouts, and honestly I never really felt like my skin needed it, so why wear it? But the simple fact that I don’t like it constantly compels me to find one that I do. And I like Stay All Day, a lot!

Available in 16 shades, Stay All Day has a lot going for it. Right off the bat, it’s oil free so I don’t have to worry about breaking out. But you wouldn’t guess it’s oil free. It’s matte, but amazingly dewy looking. It contains an oxygen technology that is said to leave skin hydrated, which I’m sure has a lot to do with the dew. I’ve seen reviews where people with oily skin say this is TOO dewy, but it’s not the case for me. We’ll see if that changes in the summer. But so far, my winter skin is loving this.

And, just as you’d want from a foundation it covers beautifully and wears for-EVER. My skin looks just as good when I get home as it does when I leave.

There are some big claims as well; a “combination of botanical extracts that help to enhance circulation and blood flow, resulting in an increase of oxygen being delivered to the skin, helping to slow down the onset of premature aging.” Of course, there’s no way for me to measure any of that. But damn, does this foundation look fine on my skin!

Paired with a heavy duty concealer that’s on the top of the cap (with a mirror too) and can you see why I’m feeling the love.

Like any true love affair, there are a couple of things that irk me about my lover. But they have to do with the added bells and whistles rather than the formula itself.

The brush it comes with is a really nice quality. But it’s short and the handle doesn’t give you much leverage when using it. The mirror in the cap, however cute, is useless. It’s so small that I can’t get my eyes to focus on it at all. Maybe I have bad eyes?

Finally, while the spatula that’s attached to the cap is super handy, it’s a bit too big. It delivers too much product so I have to be really careful when using it to apply.

But for a foundation that I really like (I really, really like!) I’m willing to look over a few design flaws.

we heartsters, have you tried Stila Stay All Day? What’s your go-to foundation?

  1. Hmm curious packaging on this one! Stila was one of my first higher end loves (after Clinique, which my grandma and aunties introduced me to). I was all over their Smudgepots (still a fave of mine) and their eyeshadows (the pans are so big! so shimmery!).

I like the idea of the coverage and finish of this foundation a lot! I like medium/buildable coverage–so when my skin bad I can build it up, and when my skin is good, I can go with less coverage–and a natural finish–most longwearing foundations are very matte. I might see if I can pick up a sample.

  2. I haven’t tried this, but I want to! When blended out, it really is completely undetectable on your skin. Amazing – especially for a long-wearing foundation (they often seem to look heavier on skin to me)

  3. I love that the concealer is in the cap, one less tube/bottle to carry around! Sadly, I’m not so sure it would work for me- I tend to need a different shade of concealer than foundation. Too bad you can’t mix and match tops!

  4. I’ve never tried a Stila foundation before but this may change! LOVE the concealer in the cap. How genius!

  5. Ok, concealer in the cap is super clever, LOVE that! I’ve only used Stila’s lip products mainly, so this one definitely has me intrigued…
