The Body Shop has been one of my favorite brands since I was a pre-teen. In the terrifyingly dark days before the internet and online shopping, my BFF and I would pour through The Body Shop catalogue, planning our purchases. Remember the fruity lip balms, in those glass pots? And the Japanese Washing Grains face wash? And the Dewberry perfume oil?
Back then, I loved their commitment to natural ingredients and their overall crunchy but fun vibe. Today, I’m even more impressed by their dedication to community trade and fairly sourced ingredients.
That mission—beauty with a conscience—is exemplified via The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey Body Care Collection: a range of pampering products crafted specifically for dry and sensitive skin, incorporating Community Trade Almond Oil from Spain and Community Trade Honey from Ethiopia.
About that honey: The Body Shop “sources it from the Sheka rainforest biosphere and works with the ‘bee whisperers’ of Beza Mar, a group dedicated to improving the livelihood of Ethiopian beekeeping communities and maintaining their traditional, natural way of working with the bees” –how cool is that?
From body wash to lotion, each item in the line is creamy, dreamy, and an absolute treat for the senses. If you struggle with dry, itchy or delicate skin, you’ll love it: everything is hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested.
I am pathological about keeping my skin healthy and moisturized (Zoolander’s “Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty” quote is my motto), so I happily soaped, scrubbed and slathered my way through every product in the range. Everything here has the same delicious scent—sweet, rich honey, laced with a faint nuttiness and an even fainter hint of cream (on the skin, the scent is very subtle and dissipates quickly).
First up, let’s look at the moisturizers in the line.
Almond Milk and Honey Soothing & Restoring Body Lotion ($13) – This light, silky lotion absorbs quickly and is meant to relieve dry, itchy skin for up to 48 hours. It feels deliciously moisturizing and comforting all day, and my normally dry legs feel like buttah. (I REALLY want to make a “it puts the lotion on its skin” joke here.)
Almond Milk and Honey Calming & Protecting Hand Cream ($8) – This quickly found a permanent home in my purse, thanks to its super rich yet not greasy texture. Frequent hand-washers, you need this: it instantly relives that dry, tight, icky feeling after scrubbing up.
Almond Milk and Honey Soothing & Restoring Body Butter ($21) – A pot of pure luxury. The texture is so rich—the formula has shea butter along with honey and almond milk and oil—and the skin just drinks it up. There was a noticeable difference in how soft and moisturized my skin felt, even hours after application.
Next up, the bathing products in the range.
Almond Milk and Honey Gently Exfoliating Cream Body Scrub ($24) – If regular scrubs are a bit too harsh for your delicate skin, this is a fabulous option. It has finely crushed almond shells to smooth and soften without tugging or scratching. Despite its gentleness, this took care of my rough elbows and left them soft and silky.
Almond Milk and Honey Soothing & Caring Cleansing Bar ($5) – Listen, I am a total soap hater; it always leaves my skin dry and tight and miserable. But I put my faith in the power of almond milk and honey, and it didn’t let me down. Meant to “respect skin’s natural moisture barrier & pH,” this bar produced a gentle lather, smelled delicious, and miracle of miracles, it left my skin feeling soft and comfy. If you normally can’t do bar soap, give this one a try.
Soothing & Caring Bath Milk ($15) – I mean, Cleopatra was on to something with her milk baths. After a few glugs of this into my bath water, I felt downright queenly. The formula is pampering, satin-y and extremely skin-softening.
Soothing & Caring Shower Cream ($10) – This is such a nice little luxury for shower time: the almond milk and honey are a delicious pick me up, and the moisturizing was stellar, enough that I could skip my normal after-shower lotion slather.
Final judgement: if you have sensitive skin but want products that feel luxe and smell delicious, this line will make your day.
we heartsters, what do you love from The Body Shop? (I also recommend the Red Musk fragrance line (cinnamon/musk/tobacco) and the Drops of Youth skin care line, FYI).
Love this! I have super sensitive skin and mostly can only use all the non-scent stuff (not fun at all)! Thanks!
This will be a great line for you!
I’m so interested in The Body Shop’s Almond Milk & Honey Body Care Collection. Not only for it’s sensitive skin lure, but the smell of it, one of my favs! I know so, cause it goes in my tea everyday! Oh, for the love of MILK and HONEY!!
