Roses Are Red And Violets Are Blue, We’ve Got The Perfect Red Lipsticks For You!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I don’t know about you ladies, but there is nothing I love more than a gorgeous red lip to celebrate! There’s something so romantic and sexy about wearing red lipstick; it really elevates your look. But, it can be tricky to find a shade that works for you, so the team at we heart this has got you covered. Here’s a list of our all-time favorite red lipsticks.

Lancôme Souvenir red lipstickErin: My new red obsession is Lancôme Souvenir ($32). It’s a matte and pretty much the best red I’ve ever used, the perfect shade, the perfect texture, plus staying power.

MAC Ruby Woo Retro Matte Lipstick, redPam: The pefect shade in my eyes is MAC Ruby Woo Retro Matte Lipstick ($17.50). I have fair skin and its bright, crisp shade makes my blue eyes pop! Plus, it lasts for hours.

Sherri: Another vote for MAC Ruby Woo! I know, I know, everyone, everywhere says “Ruby Woo”. There’s a reason for this: it’s a combination of its true-blue deep red and its long-lasting retro-matte finish, and unlike some of my other favorite reds from MAC, this one isn’t a limited edition!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso Stef: MAC Ruby Woo was the first one to come to mind, too. (Are you sensing a pattern?) But I quickly remembered another fave: Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso ($22). It’s the same bright, blue-based red. But it truly does stay all day (or all night, which would be VERY handy on Valentine’s Day.)

MAC VIVA GLAM Miley Cyrus II with an orange red shadeMarilyn: It’s so hard to pick just one! But I’d have to say MAC VIVA GLAM Miley Cyrus II because it’s the perfect shade of vibrant orange red, which really pops against my blue hair. And I love that it benefits the MAC AIDS Fund. (Editor’s note: Sadly, the Miley shades are long gone. Check out MAC Lady Danger ($17.50), which is permanent collection and has a similar vibe.)

Chanel Rouge Allure in Pirate shade of redMelissa: I’m fickle with my reds, but right now I’m totally in love with Chanel Rouge Allure in Pirate ($37). I love everything about it, from the name (Come on, what’s cooler than a pirate?), to the classic Chanel packaging, to the color, which is glossy yet long-lasting, the perfect Valentine red.

NARS Shanghai Express shade of redKrista: Because I compiled this post, I’m cheating and adding more than one lipstick to this list. I own so many red lipsticks that it would be like asking me to choose a favorite child to pick just one! First up is NARS Shanghai Express ($28). This semi-matte offering is a warm, brick red that I daresay is one of the most wearable reds this girl has worn. If you’re afraid to wear red, you will love this one. The color is dramatic without being too garish and it lasts all day, wearing down to a kissable stain.

Besamé Cosmetics Snow White RedBesamé Cosmetics is responsible for my next favorite–they have perfected red lipsticks and have many vintage-inspired shades to choose from. I’m currently choosing Besamé Cosmetics Snow White Red ($24), from their limited edition Snow White collection. They managed to recreate Snow White’s lip shade from the 1937 animated classic. I have dark hair and fair skin and I’ve wanted to be Snow White since I was a child. With this lipstick, I can achieve the grown up version! It’s a bold red that somehow seems neutral at the same time. It’s incredibly wearable and will easily take you from day to night.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick in Red Carpet RedRounding out my favorite reds is Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick in Red Carpet Red ($34). This one is not for the faint of heart! It’s bold, it’s bright, it’s a true ruby red matte that channels your inner Hollywood starlet. Just wearing it makes me feel glamorous.

So there you have it, our ride or die red lipsticks–from women who are obsessed with makeup. Did your favorite make the cut? What are your favorite reds? I want to hear all about it in the comments!

  1. The Perfect Red makes for the perfect Valentine’s Day post! Even though I went with Chanel Pirate, I was *this* close to choosing Ruby Woo as my favorite. I’m going to finally cave and buy the Besame Snow White red before it’s gone.

    1. You NEED the Snow White Red, @turboterp! Every lady with dark hair needs that one in their arsenal! Also, thanks to you, I just ordered Chanel’s Pirate. So we enabled each other! ;)
