The real star of the no makeup selfie: Nuxe Nuxellence Eclat

I’ve never been a no-makeup kind of girl. Even on the days when I work from home, I tend to wear at least a little makeup when I run to the store at lunch. A dab of CC cream and brow gel is what separates us from the apes, right?

At least, that’s what I thought before I got to try Nuxe Nuxellence Eclat Youth and Radiance Revealing Anti-Aging Care ($75 1.5oz). With active ingredients passionflower and hyaluronic acid, this creamy serum promises to smooth, replump and illuminate skin instantly.

There is serious science behind these claims. Honestly, I wouldn’t have slept through high school biology if I’d known it would help me understand Nuxe’s technology, which is so unique it holds 10 patents. In the simplest terms, mitochondria are the sources of power that keep our skin’s cells regenerating. With age, our cells don’t renew the way they did when we were younger. Nuxellence Eclat targets our skin’s mitochondria, increasing cell’s energy production. The result: brighter, softer, younger-looking skin.

The product comes in a pump-action bottle, which lets me dispense exactly as much as I need. The pale pink cream has a subtle luminous quality (“pigment correctors” according to Nuxe) that immediately intrigued me, and a light, herbal scent. When I applied a little of the cream to the back of my hand, my skin gleamed. So I threw all caution to the wind and applied the product to my face, then headed out to my local coffee shop. Even though I wore no other makeup, I felt polished and glowing, like I’d had a good workout.

My instant improvements are in line with Nuxe’s own clinical findings. A test group of 29 volunteers reported these results:
• With the first application, skin was 93% smoother and 63% more luminous.
• After four weeks, skin was rejuvenated (76%), replumped (93%) and more radiant (76%).

My own skin was instantly smoother and more luminous. Now, three weeks into testing, I think my complexion looks markedly brighter. My skin also feels much smoother than it normally would at this time of year; I would expect some dryness in October, but Nuxellence Eclat is keeping moisture locked in.

I really love this product and have only one issue that would keep me from buying it. Nuxe, previously a cruelty-free company, now sells in China where animal testing is required. Which is a shame if you buy only cruelty-free products, because this is as powerful as it is pleasant to use.
