The tarte hall of fame – 4 Day Stay Lash Stain

Many would say that mascara is the making, or the breaking, of a face. I consider it to be an essential part of my routine, whether I am going for a barely there natural look, or dramatic for a night out. For years now I’ve been a lover of Benefit Bad Gal Mascara; I’d use black for night, plum for a casual day look. My problem was the transition, if I wanted to take my day look to night I’d end up with the dreaded clumpy spider eyes. So when my Bad Gal Plum ran out, I started looking for something I could use for those casual days that would layer well with another product. Enter tarte.
tarte is a company I’ve adored from a distance for a while now. Their use of natural ingredients, and all around commitment to being a green company are truly something to be admired. I puttered around the web trying to tell myself I didn’t need anything, until I found their 4 Day Stay Lash Stain ($18), exactly what I had been looking for! A completely new type of product, a stain for your lashes instead of regular mascara, and what’s that in the description? It lasts for 4 days?! There was no way this was possible, I had to try it.
I waited not too patiently for my mascara to arrive, and when it did I immediately wanted to play with the newest addition to my beauty wardrobe. I put the product on somewhat lightly and made sure it was well dried. My lashes looked like my lashes, but better. They might not be the mega lashes I am used to with Bad Gal, but they’re still longer, darker, just a little sexier, and absolutely perfect for natural looks and wearing to the office.
So what’s the first thing you do to test a product that’s suppose to last for 4 days? Take a shower, of course. When I got out I couldn’t wait for my mirror to defog, and sure enough, my lashes still looked long, silky and black. Same thing the next morning after a night’s sleep. I tried my Bad Gal over it that day, and there was none of the crumbly spider lashes I had before when I layered my products. Amazing.
I have been using it regularly for about 6 weeks on my more natural days, and I love it. Its completely water and sweat proof. It can tend to be a bit flaky, but not with a light application. I also don’t think it lasts a full 4 days, but it certainly lasts at least 2, and I still see just a little lengthening into the 3rd day. I will absolutely be getting this again!
How about it readers, what product would you nominate for the tarte hall of fame?

@pinkshaya – I’ve never even heard of lash stain, so I was very intrigued by your post! One question: should I assume that I couldn’t use this product because I wear contact lenses?
How did I miss this?!? It sounds amazing!
I’m still a tarte cheek stain fiend. That giant tube lasts forever, and it’s so beautifully subtle. Flush is great, but Blushing Brides is my fave….
Good gravy, I must see this product, it sounds amazing. I love my “Blushing Bride” too, Alyssa.. Tarte has some really cool things to get you hooked!!
This is a 5 star product, and it will be a permanent part of my makeup wardrobe. I use it once or twice a week, and continue to love it. I’m completely addicted to tarte products now, and it all started with this lovely little tube.
@turboterp – I don’t think you will have a problem combining this with contacts. It behaves much like a regular mascara, except it doesn’t come off.
@lyssachelle It’s hidden in the eye section, like I said I was digging around their site for a while before I found it.
Like I said I can’t recommend this product enough, especially if you love the natural look.
This would be great for the beach or a day in the pool! Must check this out.
As for my nominations into the tarte hall of fame, I’ve got quite a few. I second @lysschelle with the cheek stain nom. I’m having a major love affair with the Ring It In stain set from Holiday 2010.
My other must have is Smooth Operator tinted moisturizer. And I have a feeling Lifted eye primer is going to be one soon. I just tried a sample and I’m in awe!
Tarte’s cheekstains and emphasEYES eyeliners are nice, but I’m totally in love with their glossy lipstains! I have three colors already… And their eye primer is FABULOUS as well.
Are you sure this product is healthy for your lashes? There could be strong chemicals, etc.
I’m all about lashes and lazy days so this is just the right thing for me! If my evil plan works I’ll get to take some days off of the ole beauty routine and still have a look going. Nothing better!
This is the closest thing I’ve seen to at-home dyeing lashes. I’ve had it done by a salon before. A professional can dye your lashes & it should last a few weeks. If you find someone who does a good job, I suspect you can have great results… but the two places I’ve gone haven’t been too good- uneven & sloppy, c’est la vie.
Great Review! I love the Tarte smokey eye palette.
Hey Lori, I think the name is a little misleading, it’s not quite a true stain. Think of it as a flexible and long lasting mascara. If there is any company out there that I trust to not use harsh chemicals it’s tarte. They pride themselves in being natural and safe for your skin, which is why I love them. Since my skin is getting more and more sensitive with age their products are becoming a larger and larger part of my life.
I’m going to also go along with everyone else here and nominate the shadow primer for the tarte hall of fame. I LOVE it. I’ve been using it regularly since I received a sample along with the Naturals eyeshadow pallet. A very small amount goes a long way and I haven’t had a crease in weeks. It also works with non tarte products, and is great under my benefit cream shadow/liners.
I have always been interested in trying the Tarte Lash Stain. It sounds neat!
I totally nominate Tarte’s Cheek Stain for the hall of fame. It is a product that I use virtually every day. It is truly fool proof blush that looks like a natural flush. I love it!!!!!!!
Count me as another vote for Tarte Cheek Stain! It’s so easy to use and totally foolproof. Another top 10 pick from me would be the Tarte LipSurgance pencils. Haha, I guess I just like easy to use products that come in stick/pencil form!
I’m going to have to look for this lash stain the next time I’m in Sephora, it sounds amazing. I love products that encourage me to be lazy in the morning, LOL! 4 days of staining power = more sleep for me.
What a concept! As soon as I finish all my current mascaras….
On to other things Tarte, though…I love their lip colors (and just bought another one). Alas, it wasn’t the color I wanted (Ulta was out) but there are so many wonderful Tarte lip products to choose from. Great company!
This has always been on my “to try” radar but I always stray from it because new mascaras make me nervous ha ha! This sounds like a keeper though. I absolutely love Tarte’s Natural Lip Stains. They don’t stain like markers do, but I think that’s why I like them way more! They also feel like lipstick but the stain does last for me (as opposed to some reviews I’ve read of this product).
