The truth behind my glowing skin – Murad!

It’s hard to put a finger on my biggest skin issue; I’ve got them all! I’m a sufferer of crazy combination skin that changes with the seasons. One month I’m super oily, the next dry as a bone, and some months a little of both. I also fight acne, wrinkles and skin discoloration. Let’s just say I battle it all. One of my favorite skin care ingredients is Vitamin C – I’ve found that it helps with my combination of skin issues. We’ve all heard the benefits of using vitamin C enriched products in our skin care regimen. It’s known to increase collagen production, promote healing, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and minimize the appearance of scars. Seriously, what more could a girl ask for? When the folks from Murad sent over a few of their products, including the Essential-C Day Moisture with SPF 15 and the Active Radiance Serum, both packed with the anti-age fighting vitamin C, I was over the moon.

We’ve professed our love for Murad a number of times on we heart this. (Check out the rave reviews from our testing team on the Sleep Reform Serum, the AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser and the Oil Control Mattifier SPF 15). So, I was excited to see what the magic of Murad and Vitamin C could do for my not so magical combination skin.

I was lucky enough to receive three Murad classics, the Essential-C Day Moisture, the Active Radiance Serum and the Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask to try out. I’ve been using these products faithfully and am happy to say I’m quite pleased with the results (and my combo skin is too).

The Essential-C Day Moisture SPF 30 comes in a tube and is a perfect light moisturizer for daytime use. It does have a slight citrus scent, so if you are sensitive to fragrances, you might want to give this the sniff test. Scents usually do not bother me in beauty products and I really quite like the freshness of this one. Murad claims the Vitamin C and antioxidants work to protect skin from the environment. Another added bonus for me is the SPF 30. It’s a must to keep skin youthful and this formula goes on light, absorbs well and doesn’t leave me feeling greasy.

The Active Radiance Serum is another vitamin C enriched product and its benefits include encouraging collagen production and helping your skin resist environmental stress and damage. It is hands down one of the best serums I’ve tried in quite a while. The instructions state to use this twice daily after cleansing. Then, wait about a minute for maximum absorption before applying moisturizer or makeup. This serum gives your face a slight tingling sensation, but for me is completely non-irritating. I love that I can feel it working instantly. My skin absolutely loves this serum! I haven’t seen such a healthy glow on my face in such a long time.

Finally, I tested the Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask. According to Murad, this antioxidant-rich mask restores, revitalizes and balances combination skin. Perfect for me! Fruit enzymes work to dissolve dead skin and leave you with a soft, moisturized face. The masks are packaged in a box of six foils; one treatment per foil. However, I found that I had more than enough product using only half a package – hooray! You might even be able to squeeze out three uses with one pack to get even more for your money. Use once or twice a week for optimal results. I thought this mask had a nice silky texture to it and left my skin feeling nice and smooth. Bonus points for not leaving my face feeling tight and dry like a lot of masks tend to do.

True story: recently a friend asked me if I was pregnant. Not exactly the thing a non-pregnant girl wants to hear! She’s a good friend so I just came out and asked her if I looked like I was gaining weight. Luckily she said no, the reason she asked is because my face was absolutely glowing. (Tell her to lead with the glowing part next time! ~wht) This was after a month of using these products religiously. Of course, that just made my day and confirmed my love for Murad even more.

Anyone else glowing with love for Murad?

  1. I am a huge fan of the pomegrantie moisturizer! It smells good, the bottle is pink, great oil control, and and awesome glow! The essential C moisture is great also.

I always recommended to clients (back in my Sephora days) vitamin C products when you’re feeling dull and lacking the “glow” Orange Juice for your skin!

  2. I agree with Katie. These products do give you an awesome glow…especially the serum. Best of all you get instant gratification with it. My skin gets a really nice pink flush to it after applying it. Murad is definitely one of my favorite skincare lines. 5 stars all around from me!

  3. Last year I won a Murad skincare set through WeHeartThis. It wasn’t all the same products offered here, but I love it especially the oil mattifying lotion with SPF. Definitely worth the cost, and a little goes a long way. Nice review.

  4. It never fails that whenever I read a beauty magazine article where they ask a celebrity about their skincare routine, they inevitably mention a product from Murad. I’ve been wanting to try their products for so long, based on all the glowing reviews, but somehow I just haven’t managed to get my hands on something until now. I was so excited when I received Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask to review, because my face is oily and prone to breakouts. The only way I can keep a handle on my skin is to exfoliate often, yet it’s something I always seem to neglect.

First off, Tiffany is totally right and you can definitely get two or more uses from one packet. Love that! Second, the scent of this mask is divine. It actually smells like real pomegranate, not perfumey, synthetic, fake pomegranate. And I also agree with Tiffany about how silky this product is. It literally glides on your skin. It feels absolutely decadent to apply.

I left the mask on for 10 minutes, as directed, and after I rinsed I was pleasantly surprised to see that my skin didn’t have the usual “tight and dry” feeling that a lot of other masks leave you with. It just felt so smooth and clean, and later in the day I still had a rosy glow.

I can only imagine how good my skin would look if I used this mask on a consistent basis. Murad is definitely one of those skincare lines that’s worth the splurge (and this is coming from the cheapest girl on the planet).

Five stars for me, for quality, fragrance, texture, ease of use and results.

  5. This line is awesome.. It’s one that stands tried and true to it’s claims. I love any product I’ve ever had by Murad and I have sensitive skin!

  6. I do enjoy Murad and with the exception of their Skin Perfecting Lotion(this clogged up my pores in a big way, I was so disappointed), everything has made my skin clear and have a glow.

I love their AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser—I received one to test and am now on my second tube–my Clarisonic and this cleanser are the best team against aging and acne EVER.

Their Oil-Control Mattifier w/ SPF 15 really does help keep oil at bay, contains spf, and works like a primer on me and helps diminish the appearance of pores–it’s just a fantastic product.

I received a packet of their Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask to test out and again, I am loving Murad. The scent is fabulous—very fresh and fruity. The mask itself is a little wetter than I am used to—it’s more of a gel, but I’ve used some really great gel masks in the past, so I had faith in it. The end result is that after 15 minutes, my complexion was brighter and I looked really well-rested. One packet got me two applications and got rid of the dull skin I tend to get this time of year. I think I’m going to have to make the investment for a box of these packets because they’re worth every penny! :)

  7. I tried Murad Vitalic Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask. I slathered probably too much on when I tried it because I only got one use out of it. I’ve mentioned before that I’m scent-sensitive, but this was a light and fruity scent that I could handle. The mask itself wasn’t like the rock-hard masks that I’ve tried in the past, so I was very pleased. The results? My skin felt fresh and since I have combo skin like Tiffany, that’s a hard task to complete.

I have a problem though. My skin reacts much better if I use a complete regimen. Like when I was younger I used Mary Kay’s skin care line…the toner, cleanser, moisturizer, etc. If I mixed and matched the products with another brand, my skin would be a wreck. I’m not sure if it is crafty planning by the folks at Mary Kay or if my skin is just way too sensitive, I dunno…but I would get breakouts or patchy-ness if I used Clinique’s line along with the Mary Kay products. I would LOVE to try Murad’s entire line to see these wonderful affects (or is it effects) that Tiffany talked about.
