mascara + conditioners + growth serum = luxe lashes

photos: we heart this

Have you ever heard that eyes are the windows to the soul? Maybe that is why we are so obsessed with eyelashes. They inspire a billion-dollar business. Very few people are born with naturally gorgeous eyelashes – except Elizabeth Taylor who was born with a double row of them. The rest of us mere mortals have to rely on mascara, lash curlers, or even growth serums.

I don’t know about you all, but I find it tough to navigate these waters. Growth serums scare me. A curler nearly put my eye out. And who can choose the right mascara in a sea of thousands? Thankfully, Urban Decay has thrown us a life preserver with Lush Lash Mascara.

Lush Lash Mascara is a growth serum infused conditioning mascara. Call me weird, but it sounded a little scary to me at first. Happily, I am here to tell you that it is anything but frightening. I feel like I am becoming somewhat of an unofficial mascara correspondent here. I have had the opportunity to test some really wonderful mascara products over the past year or so, and I can say Urban Decay’s Lush Lash may just be the best that I have tested yet.

This specially formulated mascara has a number of conditioning ingredients that make your lashes very soft. No more brittle lashes or flaking. Even better, it is infused with a growth serum chock-full of peptides and moisturizing panthenol.

And don’t forget, this is Urban Decay – vegan, cruelty-free and green minded. So it’s not surprising this is a gentle formula that should not irritate even the most sensitive of eyes. No, Lash Lush it is not a waterproof formula. But I experienced no smudging or running under some harsh conditions.

I also liked the rather large, hour-glass shaped brush that helps evenly apply the mascara to every little lash. And best of all, Lush Lash Mascara truly does promote lash growth with regular use. After a month or so of daily use, my lashes appear to be fuller and healthier – in a word, LUSH.

Pros:
effectively thickens and lengthens your lashes.
gorgeous signature UD purple packaging
quality, hourglass-shaped brush.

Cons:
not a waterproof formula (I say give it a try regardless, as you may be very surprised. I was.)

I am so happy with Lush Lash that I am planning on breaking one of my cardinal rules. Normally, I am so cheap that I never pay more than $10 for mascara. (I hate throwing it away after only 3 months.) But even at $20 per tube, this stuff is more than worth it. Run, don’t walk to pick up this amazing new mascara. You won’t be sorry.

  1. I am like you and prefer to go on the cheap with mascara, but this Lush Lash may make me dig a little deeper. Great post, @kellie76!

  2. I am still loving this mascara! It leaves my lashes looking so nice. And I am always shocked by how little it smudges. You would think that it was really waterproof. :) I highly recommend Lush Lash. I give it a solid 5 stars for sure!!

  3. I’ll be back later to properly gush, but I LOVE THIS MASCARA! It’s exactly what I look for: plastic bristles, non clumping, extreme length. I’ve got to test a bunch of really great mascaras lately, and this is the one I reach for again and again (and the one I’ve taken with me on 3 separate trips in the past 2 1/2 weeks). Brava Urban Decay 5 stars!

  4. Growth serums scare me, too, @kellie76 , but the look of that brush crosses out my fear! Wow! I love practically anything Urban Decay puts out these days, and this mascara sounds like yet another UD item I have to own.

  5. Allow me to gush over the Luch Lash Mascara by UD! I just put some to this on this morning and said to myself, this mascara is really nice stuff! Mascara is key when getting ready for work or going out on the town. This makes my lashes look and feel great. I only need to add a few stokes to have the brush do its job! If I want more oomph, then I add a little more. What a wand indeed! It gets every lash! What a pretty design too. Twenty dollars for this is not expensive at all! Love this and for sure give it 5 stars from me!

  6. I love this mascara! It looks great with just one coat. I also love the look of the brush. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

  7. I was a happy tester of this mascara, too! I love the pretty design of the container and the thick, heavy feel of the container and wand – makes me feel like I have better control and that I’m getting my money’s worth! I like the formula a lot. Zero clumping and washes off easily, no smudging at all here, either. I feel like I have to put on a couple coats to really get some thickness, but usually I just like volume without much thickness so I’m ok there too. I love the small, tight bristles – they really help to get all the lashes separated and disperse the product without clumping. I’m not a big fan of the hourglass shape, though. I like a small tapered end to get at those tiny outside lashes and I struggled with that. But this does make my lashes feel and look great. I don’t think it’s made them grow any more and I’ve been using it regularly for a couple months, but it is a great overall product. Four stars from me, since the wide end of the brush isn’t my favorite design of theirs.

  8. I didn’t get to test this mascara, but it sounds amazing. I have really thin lashes and tend to need mascara to make them stand out at all. The price tag sounds steep but Urban Decay makes quality stuff, so I’ll be adding it to my wishlist the next time I splurge on a make-up spree.

  9. Great Review @kellie76 !!! I know what high standards you have for products and this one seems like it is almost perfect.

Were their any sensitive testers out there? How did this formula do for the allergy sufferers out there?

  10. I really liked this mascara. Great performer–no flakes or clumps. My lashes didn’t feel crispy to the touch, either. A step above the natural, naked look (inky color and barely believable thickness) but not over-the-top (as I normally expect and even want UD to be). Color is matte, not glossy.
What I don”t like? That darn hourglass-shaped wand we are seeing everywhere–it will never work as well as the old fashioned tapered wand. Please mascara makers everywhere, can we go retro in our wands? Pretty please?
    Solid 4 stars from me.

  11. I am in love with this mascara as well! I have my few favorites but this is definitely getting added to the list. The packaging is really pretty and I also really like the brush shape. As Mel said, it did take me a couple coats to achieve a good thickness but it leaves lashes feeling soft and lush. No clumping, flaking and washes off easy. It was hard for me to tell if my lashes grew and got fuller but they definitely felt softer. This is a five star product for me, homerun all the way!

  12. I love this mascara soooo much! I use it every day! I had had another mascara before this one, and like you, I was using one of the less expensive drug store ones. It worked fine. But when I got this, I switched over completely and have never regretted it! I was getting my make-up done by a Bobbie Brown make-up artist recently and was told I have great lashes – a compliment I’ve never received before! And the packaging is just a wonderful added bonus. So beautiful! This is 5 stars for me!

  13. Wow, what a glowing review! I have the same general rule- no more than $10 for an every day mascara, but you have me tempted. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for an opportunity to try out UD Lush Lash!
