A Green Monday review of a few key pieces from Weleda’s Rose and Almond lines

photos: we heart this

The body, the mind and subsequently, our emotional and mental state of being are very clearly tied to the earth. Not just in the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the environment we choose to surround ourselves in, but also the beauty products we use. It goes without saying that the healthier they are, the healthier we become.

That’s why we heart companies like Weleda; they have been employing methods like biodynamic farming, and using 100% natural ingredients to create their health and beauty products for years. If you were intrigued by our past review of Weleda’s Skin Food, then I promise that you don’t want to miss out on the latest items to be put to the test. I tested two items, the Almond Facial Oil and Wild Rose Intensive Eye Cream and for such unassuming looking products in such simple packaging, they proved incredibly effective.

It’s no secret around these parts that I am a lover of facial oils, so I was quite pleased to try the Almond Facial Oil ($22.50). Hypoallergenic and fragrance-free, just a few drops rubbed on my face, neck and chest, after I showered in the morning, and my skin was left glowing and supple. The oil is a pretty heavy-duty moisturizer, but don’t worry, you won’t feel greasy.

And thanks to the sweet almond oil, plum seed oil and blackthorn flower extract in this product my skin is getting a healthy dose of antioxidants to help fight signs of aging. Plus there are vitamins A, E, and C; natural toners that did a great job of evening out my skin tone while balancing and strengthening my skin.

Even better, you can also apply this oil at night for a deep, regenerative treatment or use it as a makeup remover! A couple of drops on a moistened cotton pad and it easily removed my eye makeup and left my skin incredibly soft!

All those vitamins, antioxidants and beneficial natural ingredients can also be found in the Weleda Wild Rose Intensive Eye Cream ($27). This very light, non-greasy, easily absorbed cream did a stellar job of soothing puffiness and reducing those unsightly under eye bags I’ve been rocking lately. And this cream actually helped brighten the area around my eyes – perhaps that’s thanks to its rejuvenating key ingredient, Rosehip seed oil. I don’t know exactly what it is, but I love it; even when I felt tired, my skin at least looked fantastic and refreshed!

The wht team received other products from the Wild Rose line including the Cleansing Lotion and Wild Rose Day Cream. They both employ the antioxidants and essential fatty acids of Rosehip seed oil to help revitalize skin. And we’ll hear on a few Weleda Almond products as well, like the Almond Moisture Cream, especially for soothing and nourishing sensitive skin. So stay tuned for their thoughts.

In the meantime, meet me in the comments and tell me which Weleda products you reach for when you want to treat yourself to some healthy, natural papering!

  1. It’s also worth mentioning that Weleda makes excellent baby products! The same methods of employing natural ingredients are used for their baby line which is great to have natural options because who wants to rub scary chemicals into their baby’s skin??

I’m thoroughly impressed by this companies philosophy and use of natural ingredients. Makes you feel good to support a company like this! Plus their stuff is just plain great!

    5 stars!

  2. Great review, @kari! I’ve always been impressed wtih Weleda, they seem like a great company and I’ve never heard anyone complain about their products!

But my favorite part? “I don’t know exactly what it is, but I love it;”
That sentence is the story of my life! :-)

  3. Great review, @kari! I have always been a fan of WELEDA. There’s lots to love about this line. I was turned on to the deodorant in Wild Rose several years ago, but I have been having a very hard time finding it anymore. I was getting it at Henry’s Market. Anyone know about that?

  4. Hooray, just found all of this line right up the street at Target! :)

  5. I have been using the Almond Moisture Cream on and off for some time now. It is really a treat for my skin. It is very thick but not at all greasy. I use it specifically for days when my skin is in extreme crisis. It tackles redness, irritation, and extreme dryness like nobody’s business. I am typically a very oily person so this is not really appropriate for me as a daily moisturizer. It is just too heavy. But it is perfect for repairing my skin during bad periods. I give it 4 stars. But I suspect that many people could easily rate this as 5 stars for their skin care needs.

  6. This is a great post, @kari! I’ve seen Weleda mentioned but never used any of their products. Thanks to your review, Weleda Wild Rose Intensive Eye Cream will be mine!

  7. I love Weleda products too. Great prices, even better products, natural ingredients, easy to find (and that’s before I knew they were at Target – thanks @irene -Pamela) – what’s not to love?

My top Weleda products include their Creamy Body Washes (super lush feeling with a rich creamy lather -and tons of scents to pick from) and the earlier reviewed Skin Food – it’s so good for dry, flaky skin, plus it calms irritations/itchies. And it’s safe for kids too.

  8. Oooh, these are at Target? I didn’t know that…I will definitely have to check them out! Thanks for the great review!

  9. I tried the Weleda Almond Moisture Cream. I love the light scent and that it offers really good moisturizing without greasiness. It gets completely absorbed into my skin. I could put this on and walk out the door with no powder. The only thing I had trouble with is on my chin – I broke out a bit. I have to watch that with most moisturizers so I use it everywhere but on my chin area and I’m golden. I didn’t really notice a huge difference in my skin tone or texture though. I think this is a great daytime moisturizer because it absorbs well but doesn’t go beyond that – so I gave it 4 stars.

  10. I own a few Weleda products myself and I feel they are great quality for the price points that are offered. I originally read great things about the Almond Oil and it’s very gentle and moisturizing :)

  11. Thanks ladies!

I was also pretty stoked when I saw the Weleda products at Target a couple of weeks ago! I’m going to have to stock up on their moisturizer creams because it sounds like they’re good for heavy duty dry skin, which considering Minnesota is one big snow pile right now, is perfect. The oil is still doing a great job though of keeping my skin soft and moisturized in this dry winter air.

@irene, I had no idea they made deoderant! Ever since learning about the weird stuff in name brand deoderants I’ve been sticking to natural brands and haven’t really found one that has been my fave yet.I’m going to Target tomorrow, hopefully they’ll have it in stock.

  12. I had heard of Weleda before this, but I’d never tried any of their products before, but I’d always heard good things, so I was excited to try them. I received the Wild Rose Day Cream to try out. Okay, so it’s a day cream, but there’s no SPF in it, so that was a bit of a bummer. The rose scent is refreshing and a little bit reminiscent of an old timey cold cream, which I liked. The texture is very thick and rich…Now here are the negatives: it’s really too thick and rich for my oily/combo skin type. It didn’t really absorb into my skin, either. It just sat thickly on top of my skin. It made my skin feel heavy. But I gave it a chance and kept it on…and I could still feel it on my skin throughout the day…and I had a fresh crop of pimples on my chin, forehead, and nose, the likes of which my skin hasn’t seen since I hit puberty the next morning.
That being said, it is really lovely as a hand cream. It’s also fine on my neck and moisturizing one’s neck is important as you get older…
I think this would probably be fantastic on somebody with really dry skin–that person is not me. I deducted stars for lack of SPF, lack of absorption, and the resulting breakout…2 stars from me.

  13. I really like what little WELEDA I have tried. I got some “Skin Food” at Whole Foods on my lunch hour right after it was reviewed. I love hot baths and it helps my skin from getting overly dry. There are lots of other items that I am curious about.

  14. I tried out the Weleda Cleansing lotion and I was a little wary at first- A cleanser I can use with little to no water? Yeah… we’ll see about that. But wow! Now I’m a believer!
Using a clean cotton pad with each application, you apply the cleansing lotion. (Think: how your Mum used Pond’s to take off her eye makeup.) Next, wipe off with a dampened cotton pad. Repeat. When the cloth comes back with no makeup residue you’re done! Barely any water, no need to moisturize, that’s it!
I was afraid that without giving my skin a good scrubbing, followed by moisturizing, I would wake up with either a greasy face or a dry face. Happily, when I woke up I had a clean, baby soft face, ready to take on the world if needed! What a way to cut down on the time needed to get ready for bed.
The only complaint that I have (if you can call it that) is that the formula’s scent can make my eyes sting just a little bit. It’s not that the scent is bad (it’s a really lovely soft rose scent) it’s just strong. Either way, an easy solid 4 stars from me!

  15. All of these products look awesome, next time I’m wasting a few minutes in Target during my lunch hour I will have to check them out. I’ve always been curious about the brand, but it’s good to see so many amazing reviews.
And I can see that they’re working, because last time I saw @kari her skin looked amazing!
