NEW Moroccanoil Smoothing Collection – Review
Were you unfortunately born with unmanageable hair? Have you fought a lifetime battle for sleekness, wasting countless styling hours in your struggle against snarls and frizz? Then this is your lucky day, because the new Moroccanoil Smooth Collection is here, and these new products can change your bad hair mojo like THAT (imagine me snapping my fingers).
The beautifully-packaged Smooth Collection is for a special kind of unruliness and frizz… the kind Moroccanoil co-founder Carmen Tal observed her family and friends struggling to tame. Thinking about all the time wasted on various styling chores, Tal set out to create an easy system to conquer the pursuit of smoothness for “impossible” hair.
If you’re like me, and your unmanageable locks are the result of heat or chemical damage, there’s a different Moroccanoil collection for you – the Moisture Repair collection – but the Smoothing Collection will work wonders for you, too.
I tested the Smoothing Shampoo ($28) and matching Smoothing Conditioner ($29), the foundation of smooth styling thanks to AminoRenew, a proprietary ingredient that infuses hair with amino acids. Used as a duo, these products create a smoothing appearance that lasts for up to 72 hours– now that’s a hairstyle that’s worth the effort!
Despite being “oil-infused,” the shampoo has great lather, and the conditioner is light and instantly effective. Even as I was rinsing my hair, I could feel tangles slipping away, and my post-shower comb out was smooth sailing for a change.
Next, I applied lightweight, humidity-repelling Moroccanoil Smoothing Lotion ($32) before blow-drying my hair. Thus styling product contains argan oil, argan butter, Vitamin E and essential fatty acids it its surprisingly lightweight formula. And I have to say, I was impressed with how quickly and smoothly my hair dried.
I was worried I might have used too little lotion (I’m always afraid of going overboard with an oil-based product), but a tiny pump was all it took. No struggling to get a frizz-free finish – it happened naturally, and my blowout looked sleek and shiny, with no flyaways.
And the fragrance… sigh… If you’ve ever used Moroccanoil products, you already know that the entire line smells amazing – which is good, because the scent lasts a long time, longer than any haircare or even perfume I’ve ever used. I could still get whiffs of the distinct fragrance well into the next day.

I love this line with all my heart Moroccanoil is way up there on my love list. They have a line just for me.. and I can’t wait to get my mitts on this collection. I adore the smell of this line too… but how the heck doesn’t? Thanks for the great review!! The best thing about his line is how they use only GREAT ingredients- not a bad thing in there for us! Thanks for that!
The natural ingrediencts were a big selling point for me, too, @irene … and the smell, of course!
I’ve been having a hard time finding an effective frizz fighter that doesn’t also weigh down my natural waves. @Melissa how do you think it will do with waves?
Moroccanoil has many curl defining products that might be better for you if you want to keep your waves, @heather . My hair is naturally wavy-to-curly, and this smoothing line makes it easy to style my hair straight.
Ugh, I have frizz and damage issues because my hair has been eleventy-billion colors over the past few years; it could definitely use some pampering. I’ve actually been getting into argan oil lately, but I’ve never tried the Moroccanoil line–looks like just the ticket for my current hair woes.
“eleventy-billion” ha! I’m sure this line has something to pamper your hair into shape, @amity !
The Moroccan Oil Hair Care line is amazing is outstanding. I am a particular fan of their curl cream. It is truly one of the best products that I have ever found to define my curls and to fight frizz. So if you can swing the cost give this line a try!!
Thanks for the tip, @kellie76 ! Do you know the name of the curl cream? I know Moroccanoil has a bunch of curl products, and I’d like to give your favorite a try!
I loooove the scent of Moroccan Oil products. Their hairspray is fab.
My hair gets quite tangled. The best defense is a good conditioner (slick enough to get tangles out, but not something that will make my hair greasy), and a good detangling spray!
The scent is so unique, isn’t it? Glad you’re a fan, too, @lipglossandspandex !
I agree, the scent is so unique – how can you not love it?! My hair is naturally thick and curly, Moroccan Oil always gives me shine, manageability and never leaves my hair looking oily.
My hair condition changes according to the season, in autumn and winter it used to becomes frizzy. Until I discovered that argan oil is what I needed, and I was very lucky when a friend of mine visited Morocco few months ago. I asked her to buy me organic argan oil from the local market, and I am so pleased with the results. I use it once a week and it does wonders to my hair!
