Are you tired of curling your eyelashes every day?

If so, a keratin lash lift can be your best friend!

Keratin lash lift is the latest trend in the beauty industry. It is a semi-permanent, low-maintenance procedure. This enhances your natural lashes’ look without the need to deal with curling them or applying falsies daily.

Manually curling your eyelashes every day can be time-consuming. Plus, it may be damaging to your natural lashes.

So, now is the best time to switch to the keratin-based lash treatment!

But before that, you must know what a keratin eyelash treatment is and how it works. Keep reading below and find out if this lash treatment is perfect for you.

What Is a Keratin Lash Lift?

Keratin eyelash treatment is like a beefed-up mascara treat for your eyelashes. The procedure makes your eyelashes permed, curled, and tinted from the root to tips in less than 2 hours.

Keratin is a protective protein used in several beauty products. It has natural strengthening properties that help boost the health of your nails, skin, and hair—even on eyelashes!

The Keratin Lash Lift treatment helps strengthen the cells that make up the lashes. Thanks to keratin’s water-shedding properties, the lash treatment can be long-lasting.

Compared to mascaras, the tint and perm after a keratin lash lift usually last longer for about 6 to 8 weeks! Once set, your eyelashes will be waterproof and beautifully curled.

Plus, you don’t have to remove or retouch them whenever you wear makeup!

Keratin lash lift is similar to getting extensions or wearing false eyelashes in that they give you much fuller and perkier eyelashes.

But, the catch here is that you get to showcase your natural lashes in their best form without artificial hair!

Still, take note that this is only a semi-permanent lash treatment. It means that your perfectly-curled and tinted lashes will start to limp back to their natural state around 4 to 6 weeks after the treatment.

If you don’t want to return to how your natural eyelashes look, then it would be best to get them re-done by a certified esthetician or lash specialist who knows what they’re doing.

That way, you can ensure that you are in good hands because they are trained to do the keratin lash perm procedure.

Keratin Lash Lift Procedure

The keratin lash lift treatment can last 45 to 90 minutes, depending on your lashes. A lash specialist or esthetician will perform this eyelash procedure in a clean, disinfected salon.

Keep in mind that your eyes will be closed during the entire procedure, so it would help if you prepare a podcast or a good playlist or listen to keep yourself entertained. If you’re lucky, you might even sleep through it!

The actual process varies depending on location, but the steps below explain the general procedure.

Pro Tip: Make sure to remove your contacts before starting this treatment.

Keratin Lash Lifting Steps

  1. The lash technician will apply under-eye pads underneath the eyes to keep your lower lashes out of the way and to prevent the tint from staining your skin.
  2. The esthetician will tell you to keep your eyes closed until the procedure is completed. Afterward, the esthetician will place a silicone rod along your upper lash line. This rod is coated in keratin — the magical ingredient that will transform your lashes!
  3. Using a water-based glue, the lash specialist will brush your lashes upwards onto the silicone rod and coat your eyelashes in the keratin formula from the bottom to the tip of your eyelashes.
  4. After applying keratin, allow it to set for 30 to 45 minutes.
  5. Once the keratin is set, the lash expert will coat your lashes in the same manner with the tinting solution, which needs to be developed for another 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. The lash technician will then detach the patches and rods from your eyes and clean them thoroughly.
  7. And voila! It’s time to check out your stunning lashes in the mirror — get ready to be blown away!

Keratin Lash Lift After Care

After the procedure, the lash technician will usually give you aftercare procedures. Make sure to follow the following post-treatment procedures as it is crucial to how long your Keratin Lash Lift will last.

  • After 48 hours, wash your eyes and lashes daily with an oil-free cleanser.
  • Always sleep on your back.
  • Apply eyelash conditioner daily.
  • Brush your lashes gently with a lash brush every day.
  • Do not use any product on your newly done lashes.
  • Keep your eyelashes dry for 24 to 48 hours following the treatment.
  • Resist the urge to rub or over-touch the eye area after treatment. Touching can introduce oils from your hands/fingertips into the area.

How Long Does a Keratin Lash Lift Last?

If you want your lashes to be long-lasting after the keratin treatment, allow it to completely settle on your lashes for the first 24-48 hours.

A Lash Lift can last 6-8 weeks but can vary from person to person. There is no need for any maintenance appointments, but you will need to have the process repeated every 6-8 weeks to lift the new hair growth.

Can You Wear Mascara After a Keratin Lash Lift?

Yes! You can wear your mascara with your lash lift. However, it would be best to wait at least 24 to 48 hours after the treatment before wearing mascara to avoid irritation.

Also, make sure not to wear waterproof mascaras. If you insist on using one, we suggest using mineral or water-based mascara with natural fibers.

Here are the highly-recommended mascaras that we love, which you can purchase on Amazon to achieve that elevated and fuller eyelashes:

Can You Wear Makeup After a Keratin Lash Lift?

Apart from mascaras, you should avoid applying makeup after your lash lift treatment. As much as possible, it would be best to go product-free and barefaced for two days to make your lash lift stay longer.

Moreover, never use your eyelash curler again. Doing this can make your lash turn back to normal and sabotage the perming treatment.

Eyelash curlers can also damage your eyelashes, especially if you curl them as soon as you leave the salon.

So, keep your hands off that curler and enjoy your beautiful, curled lashes!

Can You Wear Skincare After a Keratin Lash Lift?

Like the other advice in this article, you should wait at least two days before applying your skincare routine.

Also, be careful when choosing products for your eye area.

Lash experts highly recommend not to apply any oil-based products around your eyes since oil tend to repel against the perming solution used on your lashes—reducing the lasting effect of your lifted lashes.

If you can’t skip your skincare, you can do it at your own risk. But make sure that it won’t disturb your permed lashes.

Keratin Lash Lift vs. Regular Lash Lift

Perhaps you are already considering going to your nearest eyelash salon and giving your lashes a boost. However, you might still be undecided on which eyelash procedure you should pick—a Keratin Lash Lift or a regular lash lift.

To help you decide, here’s a list of the differences between a keratin lash lift and a regular lash lift:

KERATIN LASH LIFTREGULAR LASH LIFT
Uses a chemical solution to break down the bonds in your lashesUses a gentle keratin-based solution
Costs between $100-$200Costs between $75-$100
Give you a softer, more natural-looking curlGive you a more dramatic curl
There is significantly less chance of damaging your natural lashesThere is a possibility of overprocessing and breaking of the lashes
Holds its shape for the full six to eight weeksTend to lose its curl after four to six weeks
Application is longer because the solution takes longer to infuse into each lashApplication is shorter because the solution used works quickly

Meanwhile, here are some of their similarities to consider:

  • Both are considered to be safe when performed by a professional.
  • Both can give you longer, fuller-looking lashes.
  • Both last for about six to eight weeks.
  • Both procedures take about an hour and a half to two hours to complete.
  • Both require a touch-up every few weeks.

If you don’t want to risk damaging your eyelashes potentially, then a keratin lash lift is the best option. Also, this is the ideal lash treatment for sensitive eyes or skin.

A regular lash lift is the better option if you’re pressed for time. On the other hand, a keratin lash lift is worth the wait if you don’t mind spending a bit of extra time at the salon.

Frequently Asked Questions about Keratin Lash Lift

Is Keratin Lash Lift Safe?

We can guarantee you that the keratin lash lift treatment is safe! In fact, it is healthy for your natural hair lashes, too—thanks to the keratin component used in the treatment.

If you’re worried about any adverse effects, take precautionary measures before you get your lashes done, listen to your esthetician, and stick to the proper aftercare.

Are Keratin Lash Lifts Better?

The answer depends on you. Some people prefer a more dramatic curl offered by a regular lash lift, while some prefer the natural look of lifted lashes.

Though a regular lash lift is more affordable, you can get your money’s worth with keratin lash lifts because it helps strengthen your old and new lash growths.

How Often Should You Get a Keratin Lash Lift?

Keratin-based lash lifts last about 6-8 weeks before it needs to be touched up.

Experts recommend that you wait at least four weeks between each lash lift appointment to guarantee that your lashes won’t be damaged and over-processed by the treatment.

Your first lash treatment will last around four weeks. But if you get it regularly, your lashes will eventually adjust, and you’ll only need this treatment about 5-6 times a year!

Conclusion: Should I Get a Keratin Lash Lift?

Whether you think your natural lashes are too short or not, you should absolutely try the treatment at least once!

You’ll be surprised to know that your eyes can achieve those long, volumized eyelashes that make your eyes pop.

Remember that taking care of your eyelashes should also be part of your body care routine. So, give your natural lashes a strengthening boost and help rejuvenate them by getting a Keratin Lash Lift.

Rest assured that the entire treatment process is painless and is worth the try!

  1. This looks like a great add on to my Cosmetic Tattoo Studio. I have quite a few older clients say 65 and above. They have very sensitive eyes even for a 10 minute lash tint would this work for them or is there more of a chance with the longer procedure that it will get in their eyes and burn?
