Question of the Week: Which is better, Sephora or Ulta?

Answer: Whew, that’s tough. I love that at Ulta you can get drugstore and prestige under one roof. And a bang trim if you need it! I also have to say Sephora hasn’t been treating me sweet lately. Shipping problems, plus I NEVER get the samples I choose. When I complain, they only give me more points. I don’t want more points, I want what I chose.

But when all is said and done, I’m going to have to say Sephora because they offer a bigger selection of high-end and hard to find brands. Tom Ford, Pat McGrath Labs, Kevyn Aucoin; that’s my jam. Now, if they would only get Charlotte Tilbury, I’d let the sample thing slide…

Here’s what was up with the League last week…

Beautygeeks – has Manigeek’s swatches and review of the Essie Spring 2018 collection ready for your perusal.

Blushing Noir – If you’re someone who loves a highlighting powder that feels creamy to the touch then the new MAC Hyper Real Glow Highlighter Palette shades are going to have you falling to your knees.

EauMG – It’s Rose Week on EauMG! It’s the annual celebration of rose-centric perfumes. I have reviewed 5 different perfumes that display different aspects of a rose.

My Beauty Bunny – is showing off swatches from the new Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat palette. Is it worth buying? See for yourself!

Painted Ladies – Remember when drugstore makeup was more miss than hit? I am so glad those days are over and have 10 favorite makeup and beauty must haves for you to check out.

Phyrra – Did you want the Blood Sugar palette but miss it because it sold out in a minute or you don’t want to buy from Jeffree Star? Check out my DIY Jeffree Star Blood Sugar Palette Dupes. You’ll love my version with burgundies, pinks and duochromes!

Prime Beauty – I upped my lash game with the new L’Oreal Voluminous X Fiber Mascara. See before and after pics!

Realizing Beauty – Maybelline New York has released 10 new shades of SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick. The new Un-Nudes Collection is all about an unconventional and unexpected take on nude lipstick. Check out all the shades, including a light lavender nude!

Slashed Beauty – Not sure wax strips are worth it, or think you have to go through a tub of stickiness for real results? Sounds like you might be using strips wrong! Check out these tips on how to use wax strips for the best results, and Miranda’s favorite all-in-one kit.

we heart this – Say goodbye to cotton balls and hello to The Mitty! (Ok, maybe not totally goodbye, but you’ll see a lot less of ’em!)

Beautygeeks is Currently Craving: Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream. Long a fan of peptides as an aging-well ingredient, she’s intensely curious about this formula that features “plant-derived peptide growth factors” as cell-turnover boosters.

Ok we heartsters fess up: is it Ulta or Sphora for you? Share in the comments.

  1. Don’t even get me started on Sephora’s useless points! It’s like Schrute bucks and Stanley nickels! Totally worthless since they rarely offer anything worth redeeming them for and then cancel those orders once you find something worthy.

If you’d asked me this question even 3 years ago, I would have said “Sephora!”. But, last year was the worst year ever for me in dealing with Sephora. Missing packages, not receiving a single sample I chose for the ENTIRE year–not even sending me one I ordered by accident, having them cancel a large gwp (as in I spent $45 to get the gwp) and not provide a substitution, sending me glass reed diffusers with oil and NO padding in the box so I received an oil soaked/glass shard infused package that sliced my hand and sent glass all over my kitchen, saying they’re resending the aforementioned broken item and never receiving the replacement, cancelling 2000+ point perks that I ordered and went through and then no apology or explanation for why I didn’t get it. There was more, but those were the highlights. I don’t even have to tell most of you that the promo codes have been just sad lately and will get you things you can get for free from other sites without a code. It just doesn’t feel special anymore. Ulta has been great–they do large gwp’s and frequently offer deluxe/full-size bonus offers. Your points have more value, as in money you can redeem for things you want, not just sad point perks you probably won’t even receive (which isn’t a perk). If I can’t find something at Ulta, I go to Nordstrom. They carry most brands I love (including Kevyn Aucoin and Charlotte Tilbury!), they frequently offer gwp’s and their 3 samples are usually superior to those you can choose from Sephora. As in you actually receive what you order and you can get tube mascara samples, not just single use packets.

  2. Yeah, if you asked me a couple years ago, hands down Sephora, although I have been frequenting Ulta a lot more lately and like the variety etc. Sephora still is best place though for multitude of brands… and I’ve been waiting for Charlotte Tilbury to be carried there too!! I keep checking website periodically but nope, no Charlotte yet!
